Organization Mission
Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, established in December 1991 by General Assembly resolution 46/182. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA’s mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.
Context
OCHA’s learning platform hosts courses and micro-courses targeting OCHA personnel at large.
The Learning and Development team is working with OCHA functional teams responsible for OCHA’s areas of work (Humanitarian Access, Negotiations, Gender equality, and other) to develop theme-based e-learning courses and micro-courses. These materials draw on various content sources available internally, such as existing training materials, PPT presentations, video recordings, guidelines, articles and other knowledge products.
To capitalize on this knowledge and ensure it benefits all OCHA Personnel, the LD team is envisioning the creation of short courses and micro-courses, including in the following areas:
International Humanitarian Law; Humanitarian Access and Negotiation ; Communication; induction ; Administration and Finance
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking five Online Volunteers to undertake the following tasks:
– Review theme-specific content, including 2-3 PPTs, 2-3 recordings, 1-2 brief guidance documents, 3-4 training materials and other, which will be selected and made available by the Learning and Development team
– Develop 1-2 short courses and/or micro-courses based on selected contents using Articulate authoring tools (Rise, Storyline). Create SCORM packages as needed.
– Support uploading and testing contents (SCORMs and/or other formats) on OCHA Moodle based platform.
The Online Volunteers will work in collaboration with LDU team (L&D Officer, Assistant and one Intern) who will provide guidance and support as required. All work will be divided equally in consultation with the Online Volunteers.
Required Skills and Experience
The online volunteer should:
– Have a working knowledge of Articulate 360.
– Have experience with Instructional Design.
– Be familiar with Moodle platform.
– Have excellent English language proficiency.
-Have attention for details.
– Experience with graphic design is desirable.
– A good understanding of humanitarian-related topics is a plus.
