Context
The WHO Country Office in Mozambique provides technical cooperation to the Ministry of Health (MISAU) to strengthen health systems and improve access to quality essential health services. As part of this mandate, the Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) Team develops a wide range of technical documents, operational guidelines, training materials, and policy tools intended for use by health professionals at national and sub-national levels.
One of the team’s key priorities is the finalization and production of the Pacote Essencial de Cuidados de Saúde em Moçambique (PECS), a comprehensive set of technical materials designed to support the delivery of essential health services.
Given the volume and complexity of these documents, WHO Mozambique seeks dedicated expertise in graphic design and document layout to ensure that the PECS is professionally presented, visually consistent, accessible, and ready for publication.
The assignment offers an opportunity to contribute directly to strengthening health systems in Mozambique by enhancing the quality and usability of technical publications that support service delivery and capacity building across the health sector.
Key Responsibilities
We are looking for one (1) Online Volunteer who, under the supervision of the HSS Team Lead and in close collaboration with the Communications Officer, will provide graphic design and document layout support to facilitate the publication of the PECS.
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for:
• Designing and laying out the PECS and related materials using professional desktop publishing software.
• Developing a consistent visual identity across all PECS materials, ensuring coherence in typography, colour palettes, page structure, icons, illustrations, and other graphic elements.
• Formatting tables, charts, diagrams, figures, and infographics to enhance readability and facilitate understanding of technical content.
• Ensuring compliance with WHO branding and visual identity guidelines throughout all materials.*
• Preparing print-ready files that meet professional printing specifications and conducting quality checks prior to production.
• Revising layouts based on technical feedback from WHO and the Ministry of Health until final approval.
• Organizing and submitting all editable source files and final production files to facilitate future updates and reprints.
• Providing graphic design support for additional PECS-related communication and knowledge products, as required.
*WHO branding and visual identity guidelines will be shared with the Online Volunteer at the start of the assignment.
What You Need
Proven experience in graphic design and visual communication, preferably for brochures, job aids and reports
Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, or equivalent
Strong attention to detail and ability to work within brand guidelines
Written proficiency in English and Portuguese
Prior experience designing materials for UN agencies, NGOs, or development organizations is an advantage
Availability of approximately 10–16 hours per week and 1-hour weekly coordination meeting

Required Skills and Experience
Candidates should have professional experience in graphic design with previous experience in designing document layouts, and must have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset.
