Position Summary:
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is dedicated to the diagnosis and understanding of human diseases through biomedical and clinical research. Using the latest technologies, our pathologists help advance medicine by finding better ways of diagnosing, managing and treating diseases.
Under supervision, the incumbent is responsible for securing bodies from the morgue and preparing them for autopsy. Assists in performing autopsies including dissection procedures, and/or brain and spinal cord removal. Prepares body after autopsies, and coordinates with Decedent Affairs office, ensuring the appropriate documentation and release of body to mortuaries. Preserves and prepares surgical and autopsy specimens for conference and further examination by pathologist. Labels and stores specimens. mixes preservative solutions. Photographs bodies, autopsy, and surgical specimens. Maintains records and supplies. Maintains cleanliness of autopsy room, frozen section rooms, and the proper functioning of equipment. . Ensures the proper storage and retrieval of all tissue specimens, paraffin blocks and microscopic slides. Perform computer data entry, filling slides and help other divisions of Anatomic Pathology as needed. In addition, the position support 3 NIH funded programs involving the study of human brain tissue to understand neurotypical, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative neurobiology and omics. The position involves working within a dynamic team setting and initiating and maintaining time sensitive communication.

Full Salary Range $30.73 – $49.43 (Hourly Rate)

Required:
- A minimum of one year’s experience performing adult autopsies, including brain and spinal cord cases
- Experience with the EPIC Beaker module for Anatomic Pathology
- Comfortable speaking with decedent’s families (for our referral and outreach cases)
- High School Diploma
- One year’s experience performing adult autopsy dissection, including brain and spinal cord cases
- Ability to use EPIC Beaker EMR
- Ability to communicate with decedents’ families
- Extensive experience with human brain procurement
- Knowledge of human brain anatomy
- Acquire blood samples for toxicology
- Extensive experience mitigating working with blood borne pathogens
- Knowledge of understanding of University procedures and standards in the area of health and safety and chemical hygiene.
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to act independently.
- Ability to use independent judgement and priority setting

- Require being available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
