Rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Primary duties will include clinical responsibilities in the Large Animal Surgery (LAS) service of the Veterinary Medical Center (VMC). The successful candidate is expected to provide care and oversight of equine and food and fiber (llamas/alpacas, pigs, goats, sheep, and cattle) cases. This position will include elective daytime primary or back-up services for large animal surgical and sports medicine/lameness cases, as well as emergency service and consultations to local veterinarians. The anticipated workload distribution is negotiable but is expected to have at least 60% clinical service and clinical teaching (includes emergency coverage shared among 3 faculty). The remaining distribution of efforts in the section and department is negotiable with the successful candidate but is expected to include some didactic teaching, research, and/or collegiate/professional service and outreach. Teaching responsibilities will include providing clinical instruction to interns, residents, and professional students as they rotate through the LAS service and participation in various large animal didactic courses and rounds, including seminars and journal club. Other job responsibilities include personal development, outreach, and service to the College of Veterinary Medicine and other veterinary-related professional organizations.
There are many opportunities for collaborative research within the College, as well as with faculty across the University of Minnesota corridor of health sciences that includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing, and Dentistry. Candidates with an interest in contributing to clinical research will be viewed favorably.
:
Required:
1. DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree.
2. Have completed large animal surgery training. Board-eligible applicants who will have successfully completed an ACVS/ECVS large animal surgery residency or an ACVS/ECVS equine surgery residency (with food and fiber experience) by the employment start date are also encouraged to apply.

4. Outstanding clinical, interpersonal and teaching skills.
Preferred:
1. Preference will be given to individuals who are board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or European College of Veterinary Surgeons.
2. Clinical, training and/or research interests that complement the strengths of the current surgery faculty will be viewed favorably.
