Job Description
AECOM Heritage are an established heritage consultancy with offices throughout the UK. Due to our increased workload we are seeking an experienced heritage consultant to expand our existing team. The position offers a senior consultant the opportunity to work with our team across the UK to deliver heritage assessments and advice to a diverse range of clients. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can work within a team, but is confident to lead projects and engage with consultees to deliver high quality work. We are particularly interested in individuals who have knowledge of, or are interested in, providing heritage advice within our international workstream.
The position involves delivering desk-based assessments and Environmental Statements on a range of projects, particularly in our growing renewables market. The candidate will also be expected to provide constructive advice on survey strategies and fieldwork investigations and have the confidence to present these to statutory consultees. All work will require a knowledge and understanding of national and local historic environment policy and legislation and a proven track record of successful delivery is essential.
Location is flexible( ideally Midlands or South) but you will be expected to undertake projects across the UK, with the opportunity to work internationally. AECOM offers flexible working, with a combination of office based working and home working.
The post will entail:
-
Undertaking research and site visits to inform heritage assessments
-
Preparing desk-based assessments
-
Providing optioneering and design advice to client teams
-
Preparing impact assessments, including Environment Statements.
-
Undertaking environmental and social impact assessments for international projects
-
Undertaking statutory consultations and liaising with stakeholders via telephone, Microsoft Teams and via on site meetings.

Reviewing Method Statements and Site Specific Written Schemes of Investigations prepared by Archaeological Contractors.

Undertaking on site archaeological monitoring visits
-
Working independently and taking responsibility for programmes of work, conducted safely, and producing high quality reports.

Liaising effectively with managers, consultants from other disciplines and other stakeholders as required
To be successful in this role we are looking for the following:
-
Client focused team player with a positive attitude and ability to work with diplomacy and collaborate effectively;

Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail to get things right first time;
-
Ability to manage own time and comfortable working both within a team or alone to tight deadlines;
-
Detailed knowledge of UK heritage legislation and policy;
-
Basic understanding international heritage legislation and policy;
-
Detailed knowledge of UK archaeology across a range of periods and site types;
-
Experience of undertaking archaeological assessment work;
-
Experience in costing and project management;
-
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
-
Full UK driving licence;
-
Flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the role, including potential working away from home.

Experience of working on international projects desirable and a willingness to work outside the country
Qualifications
Candidates will have:

A relevant first degree and/or post-graduate qualification in archaeology or a related subject;

Appropriate level of membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.
