Mission and objectives
Morobe Development Foundation Inc. is a leading Internationally recognised NGO based in Lae Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea who has the vision to help young people reach their full potential by utilizing their hidden talents in community development initiatives so they can realize their potential and become a role model in the community.
MDF was established to address a broader and more diverse range of objectives and work through the use of dance, music and drama, MDF’s primary aim is to ensure that women participate equally in decision making in any project undertaken, including projects related to Ending Violence against Women, and promoting Human Rights with a aim to support the Government and UN their Development Goals.
MDF, in collaboration with Online Volunteers engaged through the UNV’s Unified Volunteer Platform (UVP), has also undertaken various scientific research studies related to the environment – forest cover loss, land use land cover change, the influence of various parameters on surface waters, and coastal shoreline turtle habitat loss. These projects included the participation of various experts and researchers from diverse fields across various countries across the globe – ranging from marine biology, biodiversity conservation, PNG community management, remote sensing, and land use policy among various others.
MDF is managed by a management committee, which is made up of the Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, Secretary, the Treasurer, the Project Coordinator, Community Development Officer, and a male and female member of the foundation, and ensures that women participate equally in decision making.
We at MDF assert that we have the required skill sets, knowledge, established international network, and the necessary foundational work to undertake projects successfully.
Context
The assignment regards the project “Fishing Plan for a coastal village”, which will be conducted by MDF. The primary goal of this project is to enhance the capacity of the indigenous communities situated within the Kamiali Wildlife Reserve Land.
MDF has a track record of supporting and advancing initiatives for rural communities. In this context, their focus is on the local communities within the Salamaua LLG (Local Level Government) in the Huon Gulf District of Papua New Guinea. This project aligns with MDF’s overarching goal and mission, which is to foster the development of rural communities in PNG, making a substantial contribution towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The business plan, which the online volunteers will contribute to, will serve as a comprehensive roadmap for the organisation which will be developing the Fishing Plan offering guidance on efficient management of resources throughout the project.
Task description
We are seeking the support of three online volunteers who are able to provide support in developing a financial part of a business plan for a project regarding a Fishing Plan for a coastal village in Kamiali Wildlife Management Area – a project implemented by MDF.
Specifically, we require support to include cash flow plans, monthly income predictions, revenue targets, financial targets and other critical financial aspects needed in the business plan.
The tasks will be split among the selected online volunteers. The online volunteers will be collaborating with the contact person from MDF which will involve regular communication with the MDF team and with other volunteers.
The tasks will be split among 3 online volunteers:
1) Draw up the plan
2) Research similar plans used by other organisations
3) Provide advice and recommendations
All 3 online volunteers will contribute to and edit the business plan.
The assignment will require about 10 hours/week from each volunteer.
Online Volunteers involved in the project will receive certificates through the UNV platform.
