Position Overview
The Student Staff Coordinator will oversee the responsibilities of the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs undergraduate student staff. They will be tasked with recruiting Orientation Assistants (OAs), developing and executing training, day-to-day supervision, and evaluation of their work. OAs work directly with students, parents, and guests during our Orientation sessions throughout the year, work with Hawk Week and other Transition Programs, and assist in frontline customer service over the phone and via email. The ideal candidate will possess experience supervising student staff, experience with Orientation programming, and experience in customer service.
The Center for Orientation and Transition Programs is housed within the Centers for Orientation and Academic Advising Programs (COAAP), a division within Academic Success. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs.

Job Description
Training and Supervision (65%)
- Coordinate the recruitment, hiring and training of orientation student staff.
- Oversee front desk operations of orientation student staff including but not limited to phone communications and email communications.
- Execute day-to-day supervision of the Orientation Assistant team during Orientation and throughout the academic year
- This includes but is not limited to team meetings, time approvals, daily schedules, and one-on-ones
- Manage a comprehensive training program for student staff
- Develop and oversee the scheduling for student staff during Orientation sessions and throughout the year to ensure coverage of front desk operations
Orientation & Transition Programs Support (25%)
- Moderate and present during Orientation sessions as needed.
- Assist in the planning and execution of Hawk Week, the University of Kansas’ Official Welcome Week program.
- Assist in the planning and execution of Orientation programs
- Assist in the planning and execution of additional transition programs hosted by the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs, including but not limited to Winter Welcome Week, Late Night Breakfast, and more.
Customer Service Support (10%)
- Assist with the Orientation & Transition Programs phone when coverage is needed.
- Monitor email sent to the Center for Orientation & Transition Programs.
Position Requirements
This position may be a hybrid of on-site work and telework as deemed by supervisor.
