The department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Assistant Scientist to work at UHealth. The Assistant Scientist, SOM carries out a particular research agenda in support of the University’s research goals and objectives. Moreover, the Assistant Scientist, SOM contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.

Perform and develop individual research projects on stroke and dementia
-
Perform rodent and canine stroke endovascular surgeries (reversible middle cerebral artery occlusion model)
-
Experience working with large animals is preferred.

Work with and deliver stem cells
-
Perform molecular neurobiology experiments on rodent, canine as well as human tissue
-
Grant writing skills are highly encouraged
-
Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills
-
Must be able to develop independent research projects, research design, execute experiments, record research findings, analyze data, interpret results and present them well (analytical and critical thinking is important)

Mentor junior trainees and students in the lab
-
Write manuscripts and publish in peer-reviewed journals
-
Attend and present at regional, national and international meetings

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree required

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
