About the role

As WWF-Australia’s technical expert on the monitoring, measurement and evaluation of conservation programs and strategic outcomes, the role leads the implementation and continuous improvement of WWF Australia’s impact measurement and evaluation systems and processes, conducting periodic reviews of tools, systems and practices to ensure strategic and programmatic adaptive management and reporting requirements are met. The role works across the organisation to grow technical capability-building and knowledge management within WWF and our partners, and captures learnings and success (results) stories on the impact WWF’s conservation work is having.

Key Accountabilities (please refer to the Position Description for the full list)

  • Promotes accountability and exercises high level leadership in the design and implementation of monitoring, evaluation and learning practices to a high standard.
  • Implements, reviews and refreshes WWF Australia’s monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches and practices to align with WWF’s project and program management standards, global goals, outcomes and indicators.
  • Uses innovative, advanced professional practices to identify opportunities, recommend initiatives and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement conservation business intelligence systems and process improvements to capture, measure and report on WWF Australia’s conservation impact.
  • Builds organisational capacity and staff capability to improve knowledge management, engaging opportunities for program learning including through connections with the wider WWF-Network.
  • Works collaboratively with other relevant program/initiatives within the WWF.
  • Network to strengthen integration and cross-learning in programs by leveraging knowledge of external best practices and emerging trends and strengthening and maintaining best practices in areas of program monitoring, measurement and evaluation.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Expert level experience in designing and implementing sophisticated measuring, monitoring and learning approaches to derive evidence regarding the outcomes and impact of complex conservation interventions.
  • Advanced conservation project management experience, including forming and leading teams, and collaborating across programs or institutions.
  • Significant experience in project/program evaluation.
  • Is the technical expert in standards/new approaches to impact assessment, monitoring and evaluation, including understanding of capabilities and limitations of alternative approaches required.
  • Champions knowledge management, engaging their network across WWF and external evaluation practitioners.
  • Strong technical research and data analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills, with an ability to communicate research findings and technical concepts to both scientific and lay audiences.
  • An ability to work constructively in a flexible team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing direct reports.
