Job Description

  1. Role and responsibilities

The purpose of the assistant position is to assist in the day to day implementation of the Education programme. 

Generic responsibilities (max 10)

These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work- and Professional Development Plan.

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  2. Assist with the implementation of the programme portfolio according to plan of action
  3. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  4. Ensure proper filing of documents 
  5. Promote and share ideas for improvement of the programme function

Specific responsibilities 

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • In collaboration with The State Ministry of General Education and Instruction plan, organize and conduct teachers, PTAs and Payam Inspectors trainings.
  • Conduct follow up and mentorship of teachers after training
  • Conduct lesson observations/demonstrations
  • Carry out weekly monitoring and supervision of schools under NRC support
  • Compile activity and monthly reports and submit them to Education Coordinator in a timely fashion.
  • Mobilize the community to contribute in construction and rehabilitation of classrooms and latrines with locally available materials.
  • Ensure timely supply of teaching, learning and recreational materials in learning spaces.
  • Support teachers and children to initiate activities in learning centres that meet the psycho-social needs of the displaced children and teachers.
  • In consultation with the Education Officer / Education Coordinator and teachers, facilitate the running of sports/recreational and psycho-social activities in learning centres
  • Lead in mobilization and sensitization of community members on importance of education in collaboration with CMCs/PTAs, local administration and the Ministry of education.
  • Lead education campaigns including developing advocacy messages for different events.
  • Carry out registration of learners in established communities and learning spaces in collaboration with local leaders, teachers and CMCs/PTAs.
  • Register and enrol youth to enterprises for technical vocational trainings and provide regular supervision and support
  • Assist the teachers in their work and report all protection related concerns 
  • Carry out data collection as required and establish databases in soft copies and in the box files for all the activities and update it regularly.
  • Other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Critical interfaces

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Education staff in project area and in other NRC offices, LFS, ICLA, WASH, Shelter and support colleagues

Scale and scope of position

Staff: Numbers and titles of staff directly managed by the postholder, and numbers of staff and daily workers/incentive staff responsible for overall in the unit (no staff under the supervision of this postholder)
Stakeholders: Key external stakeholders the post has relationships with (e.g. UN agencies, INGOs, local NGOs, civil society, governmental bodies, PTAs, teachers and students)
Budgets: List of budgets covered by postholder, and size of budget – No budget management
Information: Brief description of the information resources the postholder is responsible for at CO level (e.g. GORS, Agresso, Webcruiter, Intranet)
Legal or compliance: Brief description of any legal or compliance responsibility the postholder has (term of employment, vendors, donors)

 

  1. Competencies 

Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organisation to deliver desired results. They are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following two categories:

Generic professional competencies: 

•            Experience from working as Education Assistant in Education programmes in a humanitarian/recovery context

•            Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

•            Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities

•            Some knowledge of English 

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

•            Must have a diploma or bachelor’s degree in education or other relevant fields 

•            Knowledge of the context in south Sudan

•            Knowledge in Community Mobilization or related field.

•            Knowledge of the Local language an advantage.
