Working under the direction of the Arboretum Director to advance the mission of the Arboretum, the Academic and Environmental Program Coordinator has the primary responsibility for coordinating, promoting and tracking academic use of the Arboretum, (which includes internships, service learning, coursework and research) and Environmental Programs featuring the living and historic collections in the Arboretum (including K-12 school use).  

Essential Duties
  • Coordinates outreach to faculty to build diverse use of the Arboretum as a teaching platform for CSUF, community colleges and K-12 schools.
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly reporting up to Dean and Provost detailing academic use.
  • Works with Arboretum staff to coordinate placement and supervision of academic and service learning interns.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to promote academic use and internships at the Arboretum.
  • Plans and executes Internship Showcase at the end of each semester for campus partners, donors and community attendance. 
  • Working with the Membership and Annual Giving Coordinator, develop exclusive programming for members to assist in growing the Arboretum membership base.
  • Work with Arboretum volunteers to develop K-12 programming.
  • Coordinates K-12 school use with Calendar Scheduler and Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Works closely with Arboretum staff for reporting to industry associations such as APGA, BGCI and maintaining Level IV accreditation with Arbnet organization.
  • Presents and/or coordinates programs and activities on behalf of the Arboretum at CSUF and Community events.
  • Prepare annual goals, budgets and reports for inclusion in the Arboretum’s annual work plan.
  • Participate in institutional strategic planning.
  • Undertake specific projects and tasks as assigned by the Arboretum Director
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience in working with and/or supervising academic interns.
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, including writing and public speaking.
  • Excellent coordination and leadership qualities.
  • Must be able to function as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work with diverse personalities.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Valid California driver’s license and independent means of transportation.

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field of minimum four (4) years of equivalent work experience. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to withstand long periods of bending, walking on uneven gravel. Must be able to work outdoors, in a dusty environment prone to temperature variations, and inclement weather.
