About us
Alfred Mental & Addiction Health (AMAH) is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.
The single most important goal of Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.
Psychological Trauma Service (PTS)
This new service aims to provide a holistic, flexible, curious and empowering space that brings together the person and their support network to collaboratively formulate why they are in distress or experience impaired quality of life and choose how they will pursue their recovery.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will play an instrumental part in developing and shaping a trauma service together with other senior team members and the leadership team and provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to service users, to support them through their own unique recovery process. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, you will promote choice, self-determination, hope and opportunities to seek or maintain socially valued roles and connections in their local communities.
This role can offer a unique perspective on recovery that requires a different approach than mainstream clinical mental health service delivery.
In addition, you will have responsibility for the guidance of Level 2 Consumer Peer Workers and integrating strong processes that support consumer perspective recovery by outlining their specific functions, importance and benefits across the multidiscipline teams.
About you
- Lived experience of your own mental challenges and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery that inspires hope and belief in recovery
- Formal qualifications are not mandatory for this role but may be helpful – Certificate IV in Peer Work, Cert IV in Mental Health, Intentional Peer Support training, Peer Supervision Training
- 2-5 years’ experience (minimum) in peer work or lived experience roles
- Experience of the public or private mental health system
- Demonstrated experience of developing and facilitating group activities
- Australian working rights
- Full Covid-19 and 2023 Influenza vaccination
- Current Victorian Driver’s License
- Current Working with Children Check and be willing to undergo a Background Check
