Job description:Postdoctoral researcher position CROSSEU Project

Reference code: 2024/KG 1
Commencement date: as soon as possible

Application deadline: 05.02.2024

The Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), a scientific organizational entity of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher, starting as soon as possible, in the research project ?Cross-sectoral framework for socio-economic resilience to climate change and extreme events in Europe (CROSSEU)?. The position is limited to 2 years full-time.

Equal opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy. In principle, the position is also sharable.

GERICS develops science-based prototype products and services in support to government, administration, and business in their efforts to adapt to climate change. It builds up a national and international network structure in order to integrate existing competences and knowledge, and to link various actors within the complex area of climate change.

The CROSSEU project is a Horizon Europe funded project which aims to deliver a research-based framework for improving climate resilience and the policy response to socio-economic risks of climate change and extreme events in Europe, through the co-development of a ready-to-use Decision Support System and cross-sectoral actionable knowledge. Based on an intensive engagement of different sectoral stakeholder groups, CROSSEU will enhance the context- specific understanding of the nature and extent of the climate change-driven socio-economic risks in different timeframes (i.e. 2030, 2050, and 2100), scenarios and regions. The HEREON contribution will be chiefly through the calculation of stakeholder relevant climate impact metrics that will be used in a number of different regional case studies, which will pursue a storyline approach.

#carry out the calculation of co-designed climate impact metrics based on high-resolution regional climate model datasets
#perform evaluation and quality control of regional climate model datasets
#work closely with colleagues in GERICS and the CROSSEU project on the development of climate impact metrics to support the storyline-based case-studies
#contribute to project deliverables, presentations, and data management in a timely manner
#contribute to the presentation and publication of the work both internally and externally

Your profile
#a PhD, or close to completion (i.e. the initial thesis needs to have been submitted at time of application) in meteorology, physics, earth system science, physical geography or other related disciplines in the natural and earth sciences essential
#significant experience in regional climate modelling and the analysis of climate model simulations is essential
#experience with convection permitting regional climate modelling simulations and data is beneficial.
#experience of climate impact assessments is beneficial
