The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until September 30, 2024 due to the project duration. Employment location will be Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with frequent travel to project locations in the country.

As Expert Programme Coordination for Welthungerhilfe’s (WHH’s) Country Office in Goma, you will support the Head of Project (HoP) in ensuring a time effective and cost-efficient finalization of the KFW funded project GIAP 1 “Gestion des Aires Protegées”, implemented in the provinces of Ituri and Maniema. The aim of the project is to support communities bordering two protected areas in terms of infrastructure, WASH, income generation and agriculture.

Your responsibilities

  • Support the HoP in ensuring that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, finance, administration etc.)
  • Coordinate activities to ensure that they are completed on time and within budget in collaboration with the HoP
  • Establish regular communication with technical staff and project managers with a focus on guiding the project staff on aspects of increasing efficiency of project implementation
  • Regularly follow up on the status of implementation of project activities – this includes leadership and technical guidance of the MEAL team and the responsibility for the further development and coordination of the project’s MEAL activities to fully meet donor requirements
  • Ensure narrative reports are prepared based on the relevant information and in line with the financial and administrative guidelines of the donor and WHH
  • Coordinate the development and alignment of conceptual approaches in the field of income generating activities and ensure a “knowledge exchange” both internally and also externally with stakeholders
  • Assist the Financial Assistant(s) with the financial aspects of project implementation
  • Ensure good and regular communication with external partners and the donor in coordination with the HoP and the Country Office
  • Report to the HoP on the progress of the project(s) and all risks associated with the project work
  • In collaboration with the HoP, ensure the implementation of the WHH policy and its adaptation to local conditions
  • Represent WHH in the country/project region(s) vis-à-vis selected relevant national and international stakeholders and partners in coordination with the HoP and Country Office
  • Take over full (signatory) responsibility and leadership in times of absence of the HoP

Your profile

  • A university/college degree or completed training with additional specialized knowledge or adequate job-relevant professional experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in donor relations management of institutional funding in development cooperation
  • Experience in developing conceptual approaches to livelihoods development
  • Experience in managing teams remotely
  • Regional experience in Central Africa and/or the Democratic Republic of the Congo would be an asset
  • Knowledge of financial, logistical and programmatic regulations of KfW-funded projects
  • Diligent work attitude, ability to work in an intercultural team and proactive solution finding skills
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s project countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French language skills
