JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Varsity Athletic Sports Field Coordinator is responsible for directing Varsity athletic field maintenance and repairs, including the operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as tractors, reel mowers, skid steer loaders, infield groomers, power spray equipment, and various grounds maintenance implements used in conjunction with tractors.
  • This includes turf areas and skinned infield areas.
  • Key Responsibilities: May use other grounds maintenance equipment such as trimmers, edgers, and backpack/street blowers.
  • Responsible for game day support and field preparation for home games of varsity baseball, softball, and soccer.
  • Plans activities and directs grounds maintenance staff in the execution of necessary game day activities such as field striping, infield preparation, irrigation management, and tarp management to optimize the playing conditions for each home varsity competition.
  • Responsible for post-game field duties such as cleaning of dugouts, field grooming, irrigation management, and tarp management for baseball and softball venues.
  • Inspects and removes debris from tennis courts, outdoor track facilities, and seating areas on a weekly basis.
  • Applies fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, and pesticides to turf areas under the supervision of the Grounds Athletic Field Supervisor.
  • Adheres to OSHA standards, and other applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials and power equipment.
  • Uses protective equipment as required.
  • May drive utility vehicles to and from work sites.
  • Assists with set-up and clean up of various outdoor events such as Commencement activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent, and four years of experience operating multi-gang reel mowers or related equipment in an athletic field or golf course environment. Advanced knowledge of turf care principles of fertilization, disease prevention and management, soil management, mowing, and pest control. A valid Georgia driver’s license and an insurable driving record. A Category 24 Pesticide License or the ability to obtain one within six months. Some positions within this classification may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, and twist.

 

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
