‘All people affordably housed in neighbourhoods that support life opportunities’
Housing Choices Australia (Housing Choices) is a leading and growing national not-for-profit housing provider. Our goal is to ensure that people are housed in inclusive communities and to create homes that encourage a sense of belonging. We own and/or manage more than 7,000 homes, accommodating over 8500 tenants across Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia.
We provide a culture that supports individuals to be their best, with opportunities for personal and career development. We are committed to cultivating an equal, diverse, and inclusive environment for our staff, residents, and stakeholders.
Opportunity
We’re offering an exciting role for a Housing Officer within our Specialist Housing Group Team focused on Tenancy Management. This position involves working with vulnerable community members, including NDIS participants and those experiencing disabilities, to support them in maintaining their tenancies, enabling them to live fulfilling lives similar to anyone else.
This role entails delivering high quality tenancy management and customer services while fostering relationships with residents and key stakeholders. Collaborating with the SHG team, the SDA Participant Engagement Team, the Property team to maintain property conditions and liaising with internal stakeholders is also a part of the role.
We’re seeking someone experienced in tenancy management, social housing, and the disability sector, preferably with knowledge of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). However, eagerness to learn and a strong commitment to the role are essential qualities, even if direct experience is lacking.
This 12-month contract with a potential to extend, based in Melbourne, offers genuine flexibility and abundant learning opportunities within a supportive team environment, guided by a manager dedicated to your growth in the role.
About You
- Ideally, you possess a solid understanding of tenancy, NDIS and disability legislation, with a degree in Social Sciences, Housing, Public Sector Management, Social Work, or related fields—or equivalent practical experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including mediation and conflict resolution, are crucial.
- Your organisational abilities should shine, managing multiple priorities effectively. Collaboration is key; you should thrive both within a team and independently. Experience in managing substantial tenancy portfolios within public/community or private housing sectors is valuable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected, along with adaptability in learning new systems and databases, particularly housing management databases.
Desirable
- Familiarity with housing legislation like the Residential Tenancies Act Victoria.
- Understanding of Special Disability Accommodation (SDA) and its role within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
- Experience or familiarity with individuals facing homelessness or complex challenges.
- Knowledge of the Community Housing Sector, property industry, and tenancy management practices.
- Handling complex housing management issues, including eviction and court proceedings
