WHO Nepal Country Office supports the Government of Nepal (GoN) in formulation, implementation and evaluation of national health policies, strategies and plans as guided by the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 2023-2027. WHO Country Office collaborates with GoN and relevant stakeholders and supports their efforts to reach control and elimination targets for NTDs and country prioritized Communicable Diseases as envisioned. The GoN has already attained significant gains in progress against the kala-azar elimination program and is committed to achieve the elimination of kala-azar by 2030.
The Provincial Coordinator (NTDs/Kala-azar and CDs) position is to provide technical assistance to the provincial, district and municipality levels in Disease Control and Elimination interventions including Active Case Finding, Surveillance of NTDs/Kala-azar and country prioritized CDs, and support Disease Outbreak investigation and response as well as data reporting and data analysis at the sub-national level.
Summary of Assigned Duties:
Under the overall guidance of the WHO representative and the direct supervision of the Team Lead (CDS) and with the support from National NTDs Coordinator, the incumbent will perform the following:

Under the overall guidance of the WHO representative and the direct supervision of the Team Lead (CDS) and with the support from National NTDs Coordinator, the incumbent will perform the following:
- Provide close and continuous support to implement Kala-azar workplan for active case detection, surveillance, reporting, outbreak investigation, response and assessment related activities at the province and local levels.
- Build sound relationships with Provincial Health Authorities, Hospitals, Health Offices, and Municipal Health Section and all key stakeholders at the sub-national level. Facilitate joint efforts to accelerate program interventions on Kala-azar elimination and VBDs of endemic districts and involve in planning and implementation of disease control and elimination at the Provincial and local level.
- Technical support to health office at district and health section at local levels where kala-azar and other VBDs workplan will be implemented. Involve in capacity strengthening on early diagnosis, case management, case surveillance, vector surveillance, vector control and timely and accurate reporting of health facilities.
- Provide support to hospitals and provincial authorities to ensure the complete treatment of diagnosed visceral leishmaniasis/VL cases and facilitate to establish the follow up mechanisms of VL cases for six months and one year follow up.
- Support district health offices and local levels to ensure active case detection (ACD) of all diagnosed Kala-azar as well as other VBDS as needed in designated districts.
- In collaboration with EDCD, conduct regular field visits to ensure the implementation of ACD, Surveillance, data collection, reporting, and follow up of Kala-azar and other VBDs.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual progress report at the sub-national level and submit monthly report to the EDCD.
- Involve in Disease Outbreak investigation and response including Kala-azar and other VBDs and assist to strengthen the outbreak response at the subnational level.
- Support to ensure the undisrupted supply of medicines and commodities for Kala-azar as well as other VBDs program at the provincial and hospitals.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor. This includes duty travel or duty-station reassignment on short notice as per the program requirements.

- At least two years’ experience in public health interventions including infectious disease control and surveillance at the national and sub national level.
Functional Knowledge and Skills:
- Self-motivated with ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Good interpersonal skills, able to work as a team member in a multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to participate actively and cooperatively in knowledge sharing and policy forums at various levels and to coordinate with the GoN agencies and key stakeholders.
- Good writing skills in English and Nepali, including ability to write clear and concise progress report, analytical reports, plans and proposals.
- Technical expertise and overall attitude at work is required as mandatory competencies.
Other Skills:
- Good computer skills including office software applications and basic statistical/database management.
Language Skills:
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken language skills in English and Nepali
