The Project Coordinator will lead and coordinate IFRC’s implementation of relevant global early warning early action grants, notably the Water at the Heart of Climate Action programme. The incumbent will be responsible for managing and providing global oversight for the IFRC component of the Water at the Heart of Climate Action programme and supporting effective liaison with the alliance/consortium partners. The role holder will be responsible for global project management, coordination, and reporting (financial and narrative) support, overseeing that the project contributes to its overall objectives.

The role will also play a function in liaison and advocacy with EW4All partners and provide technical oversight on EWEA and locally led adaptation. The incumbent will act under the direction and supervision of the IFRC Geneva DRR and Resilience team and will liaise closely on the global Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative and IFRC’s role as Pillar 4 Lead. The Project Coordinator will collaborate closely with IFRC technical (climate, DRR and WASH), finance, PMER, legal and knowledge and learning units at Geneva and regional levels, along with implementing partners. The incumbent will work closely with the NLRC Programme Alliance Coordinator based in The Hague.

Education Required:
  • University degree in climate change, disaster risk reduction, business administration, project management or related field.
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in organizational development, business administration, project management or related fields.
  • Certification in Project Management.
Experience Required:
  • 5-7 years of experience in programme/project management, grant management or related field.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in climate change adaptation, early warning early action, locally led adaptation, water management, and/or related work.
  • Experience working in humanitarian or development sector, with developing countries especially in the Horn of Africa or Africa Region and/or with an international organisation.
  • Experience managing partner and resource development relations in a context of humanitarian and/or development programmes.
  • Experience working in an international or cross-cultural environment.
Preferred:
  • Experience working in a RC/RC National Society and/or Federation/ICRC/Climate Centre.
Knowledge, Skills and Languages:
Required:
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Programme/project management.
  • Knowledge of climate change adaptation and climate-smart disaster risk reduction, early warning and early/anticipatory action, and water resource management – and ability to support such programmes.
  • Results oriented and demand driven individual, entrepreneurial, ability to lead in unprecedented and/or ambiguous situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to lead within a matrix management structure and utilise talent and experience of team members in a productive way.
  • Outstanding networking, representational, communication and negotiation skills. An ability to be proactive and persuasive.
  • Demonstrated track record in innovating, contributing to a learning culture, sharing knowledge and new approaches to engaging partners.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic individual, engaging, brokering and facilitating learning and dialogue among diverse groups.
  • Professional credibility, able to work effectively at all levels across the organisation.
  • Proven good judgment and ability to work with complete integrity and confidentiality.
  • High degree of discretion, tact and sensitivity in dealing with internal and external clients and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work within a multi-cultural, multilingual, multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred:
  • Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic).
