Job Summary
As a member of UCSF Health’s Strategy and Business Development team, the Director of Capital Strategy and Execution works with UCSF administrative and departmental leadership to proactively plan and strategically manage UCSF’s capital and space resources. Directs the process that aligns space development and utilization with the clinical enterprise and business unit strategic plans for UCSF Health. Overall responsibility for leading process for ambulatory space allocations and partnering with UCSF Real Estate to set direction for portfolio distribution. Partner with UCSF Design and Construction as well as Real Estate to proactively plan future needs and capital business case development. Lead process to integrate the inputs from clinical partners, finance, and design and construction into a multi year plan for UCSF assets. Develop, monitor and work with business unit / service line leaders to achieve industry-leading performance for space utilization. Align forecasted needs for inpatient and ambulatory spaces and recommend redistribution of space to meet shifts in volume. Lead development of budgets for future capital allocation related to strategic projects and facility expansions. Coordinate space planning processes with Faculty Practice Office, Health Affiliates, Campus Planning, and Real Estate Services. Partner on growth projects with UCSF affiliates and other strategic partners to deliver net new space in which UCSF Health has a vested interest.
The candidate will report directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, Faculty Practice and Ambulatory. This position will also support the Chief Strategy Officer and duties will include supporting strategy, affiliates and organizational growth.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area or four years of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of health care experience to include provider segments; strategic and business planning; market assessment; capacity modeling; and basic finance/budget principles.
- Expert ability to deliver informative, persuasive presentations.
- Expert knowledge of the principles, concepts, and strategies involved in successful strategic growth and business development.
- Expert critical-thinking and analytical, skills to assess complex issues, and sensitive situations and develop solutions.
- Highly developed knowledge in healthcare planning, service distribution planning, and capacity forecasting.
- Expert interpersonal skills to interact and negotiate professionally with highly influential entities. Adept at establishing and cultivating business relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Expert ability to develop comprehensive reports and presentations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
- Highly developed leadership skills to guide, influence, and motivate others.
- Expert ability to achieve measurable results in a diverse stakeholder landscape balancing competing and conflicting interests.
- Knowledge and ability to serve as an expert and educational resource on healthcare strategy issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders across UCSF and outside organizations
- This position is based in San Francisco and one must have the ability to work when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a closely related field
- Experience in management of major capital projects to ensure projects achieve service delivery goals.
- Experience with a wide range of academic medical centers and teaching institutions nationally
- Experience managing strategic initiatives across multiple missions and in concert with institutional partners
