Are you passionate about improving nature conservation within an urban environment and
providing access to green spaces in the Black County?
As part of the Healthy Spaces and Environment Team, you will play a key role in Nature Recovery
in Walsall. You will be responsible for a range of Nature Reserves across the Borough. You will
be managing a small team of countryside operatives to deliver important management of our
Nature Reserves, we also have a number of grant funded programmes managing temporary officers
to deliver Woodland accelerator and Purple Horizons heathland restoration projects.
The successful candidate will deliver the day to day management of these reserves as well as
delivering capital projects which are externally funded, providing all the necessary
administration that this requires. The candidate will also be expected to develop projects for
re-wilding areas.
Main responsibilities
- Develop and undertake maintenance work plans and management projects on nature reserves and
greenways with operations team and external contractors. - To provide stakeholder involvement in management work and report on project progress to
Trust Boards and Council committees. - To develop external funding opportunities to deliver nature conservation projects in the
Borough. - To develop performance management for the service and deliver Green Flag targets on site.
- To work in partnership with others to provide an excellent nature conservation service for
the Borough.
Experience you will bring
- Management and leadership skills with an operations team
- Effective relationship management with stakeholders and nature conservation bodies
- Communications skills to improve the understanding of countryside management techniques
- HND/ Degree in Countryside Management or similar qualification.
