Other British Government Departments (Partners across Government, including UK Visas)
Climate Diplomacy
Main purpose of job:
You will be an important member of the Climate, Nature, and Infrastructure (CNI) Team at the British Embassy in Lima. The team has expanded substantially over the past years, and the environment portfolio is one of the priority areas. The overall objective of the team is to contribute a permanent fall in deforestation, bedding in sustainable livelihoods and respect for indigenous peoples while reducing vulnerability to environmental crime. To do so at the scale, this requires attracting private sector investment into green products and activities, especially in the forest and land use sector. This in turn depends on improvements in the investment climate, such as “sustainable, inclusive and faster” infrastructure.
The CNI team is recruiting a proactive person for the associate position at the British Embassy in Lima to contribute mainly with the implementation of the Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF), Andes Amazon Landscape (Peru and Ecuador). The associate will support engagement management with external implementers, project delivery partners and regional, governmental and non-governmental stakeholders with an interest in the Fund. Also, the hired person will help with the organisation of events, workshops, working tables, among other types of meetings.
Additionally, this person will help the team to develop a database, one pagers and communications materials for our portfolio following the strategy process. To do this, you will need to understand how the different UK government departments work, understand the priorities of the UK government regarding environment and have strong knowledge of the environmental policies and institutions in Peru.
Through this opportunity, the Embassy will provide valuable work experience for a Peruvian university student. This role will be of particular benefit to those students focused on the environment, biodiversity, climate change, international relations, sustainable development, environmental economics, environmental law, and other similar fields.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Support the BLF coordinator by reviewing documents, writing abstracts, analysing international cases, looking for empirical evidence, communicating with key stakeholders, coordinating meetings and events, among others. Doing research and analysis in key topics and actors.
- Assist in creating project implementation reports, abstracts and papers for the wider Climate, Nature and Infrastructure team.
- Create a database with different tabs for each donor and thematic area considering key information to be reported. Generate one pagers of the wider projects and programmes implemented by the team and the Embassy.
- Produce and disseminate communication materials for the portfolio following the strategy process of the team. Assist in the organisation of events: coordinate with stakeholders, select venues, draw up agendas, summarise agreements and draft minutes.
- Other roles delegated by the Climate, Nature and Infrastructure team.
- Work as a flexible member of the Embassy to support wider Embassy work as needed.
