Vice President of Advancement

Position Summary: The Vice President of Advancement leads,
directs, and manages the development and public relations functions
of The Night Ministry (TNM). Working with the President and Board
of Directors, the Vice President of Advancement is responsible for
building a fundraising department that will sustain and grow the
organization’s $10M annual operating budget from a network of
national and local funders. The Vice President of Advancement will
be responsible for leading the diversification of the TNM donor
portfolio with a core focus on identifying and stewarding new major
gifts. The successful candidate will help maintain current and
cultivate new relationships to build TNM’s visibility, impact, and
financial resources.

The Vice President of Advancement reports to the President &
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and oversees distinct but
complementary teams committed to the organization’s growth,
performance, and advancement: Development Operations and Corporate
Engagement; Major/Individual Giving & Special Events; and
Marketing/Communications. The Vice President of Advancement leads
TNM’s development team which is responsible for cultivating and
securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations,
and more. The incoming Vice President of Advancement will also
partner with the CEO to maximize TNM’s third-party communications,
brand, and PR to amplify TNM’s visibility through coordinated
communications, public relations, marketing, and social media
functions.

 

Role Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master’s in business or
non-profit Management Preferred

· Dynamic, professional leader with a minimum 10 years of
fundraising experience, including 5 years in leadership roles with
the ability to motivate and inspire volunteers, as well as mentor
and direct staff

· Reputation for creating a culture of philanthropy based on
listening and understanding what is important to donors and
volunteers.

· Strong strategic and analytical skills, interpersonal and
relationship-building prowess, and excellent written and verbal
communication skills.

· Creative ability to identify and develop opportunities for
donors to engage in The Night Ministry’s programs.

Position Responsibilities:

Strategy, Vision & Leadership

· Develop and implement capital and operating fund development
plans to include solicitation of individuals, foundations,
corporations, denominations, and government sources.

· Identify, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward major gift
prospects.

· With the President and staff, develop and manage the strategic
development and public relations plans for the organization.

· Serve as a member of the operations (Strategic Leadership)
team, co-share responsibility for daily operations of the
Organization in the absence of the CEO.

· Coordinate and supervise all development activities including
donor acquisition; prospect research; corporate, foundation, and
government relations and grants; major gifts and lower-level
individual contributions; congregational giving and other sources.
Continually develop and implement creative programs for giving to
The Night Ministry.

· Ensure that all donor reports are completed on time and are
accurate.

· Direct and oversee The Night Ministry’s marketing and
communications strategy to enhance public understanding and
awareness of the organization’s mission, vision, goals, and
services. Oversee press relations and ensure that news releases,
feature articles, and media interviews are taking place.

· Prepare and manage the development and public relations
budget; annually evaluate the effectiveness of these programs,
including budget analysis

· Facilitate education and communication within the organization
(including Board and staff) regarding development and public
relations activities and needs.

· Direct the planning and implementation of major fundraising
special events and other cultivation and stewardship events.

Team Development & Leadership

· Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the Philanthropic
Engagement Department

· Promote a culture of inclusivity, high performance, and
continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to
quality.

· Ensure that administrative functions are sufficiently
organized and staffed to meet the growing needs of the
Organization.

· Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training
and development.

· Establish and monitor staff performance for direct reports;
Including professional development goals, assign accountabilities,
set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance
appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.

· Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative
approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish
priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.

· Work with other members of the Strategic Leadership Team to
establish organizational policies for human resources and staff
performance.

Relationships Management & Gift
Solicitation

· Train, manage, and motivate the Board of Directors, empowering
them to serve as the primary fundraising arm of the organization,
working especially closely with the board committees.

· Oversee and direct the financial administration of contributed
income including maintaining systems, databases, software, and
donor/prospect records, as well as providing timely and thorough
reports to the President and Board.

· Establish and maintain strong relationships with Board
members, donors, prospects, the philanthropic community, and other
relevant constituency groups.

· Participate in appropriate professional organizations.

· Serve as an articulate, enthusiastic, and visible spokesperson
for The Night Ministry.

Essential skills and experience:

· A proactive leader with proven ability to creatively lead
organizational transformation projects and influence and lead a
wide variety of people.

· Excellent leadership, management, and team-building skills,
including the ability to motivate, align efforts, set goals,
delegate and monitor effectively.

· Proven successful track record in setting priorities, shaping
processes, guiding investment in people and systems, and developing
an infrastructure that creates a stronger and more efficient
organization.

· Thorough understanding of project management; able to work
effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and goals.

· Career track record showing stability within an
organization

· Demonstrated ability to develop, nurture, and build
relationships culminating in major gift success

· Demonstrated ability to mentor staff, build teams, and enhance
the professionalism of development and public relations staff

· Strategic in thinking and orientation, ability to deal with
emergent issues, multiple projects and constituents
simultaneously

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the
ability to serve as a key spokesperson for The Night Ministry

· Demonstrated ability to set and achieve or exceed goals and
meet deadlines

· Enthusiasm, drive, motivational ability, and willingness to
take calculated risks

Reporting to this position: There are 4 direct reports,
including the Director of Development.
