Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
In support of the Government of Egypt’s National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women, UN Women’s economic empowerment portfolio (2023-2027) is focused on promoting women’s access to decent jobs and economic opportunities, through access to capacity development, decent employment opportunities, reducing the unequal distribution of unpaid care work in the home, and increased community support for gender equality. Within the overall UN Women economic empowerment portfolio, this specific work is supported through a Sida-funded Regional Joint Programme with ILO, and KOICA/UN Women Egypt programme. In partnership with private sector, including on-going work with Proctor and Gamble, UN Women Egypt Country Office supports women’s economic opportunities as entrepreneurs – in particular rural women – as well as supports women-owned businesses’ competitiveness within private sector value chains. At the same time, under the women economic empowerment portfolio, UN Women through a humanitarian project will be supporting refugee women and women from host communities’ access to economic livelihoods within the above process and to provide support to the beneficiaries who have experience gender-based violence.
Reporting to the Programme Analyst, the programme assistant(s) will contribute to the effective follow-up and coordination of the above work. They will facilitate the delivery of UN Women programme field related activities by contributing to achieving results and providing advice for enhancements as necessary. They will work in close collaboration with the UN Women Egypt Country Office team to ensure successful achievement of the objectives of UN Women’s work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support in programme implementation and management ensuring the following:
- Provide management support in the preparation of programme work plans, budgets, and proposals for programme implementation arrangements.
- Assemble briefing materials and stories for the programmes’ visibility and outreach.
- Follow up with partners on the day-to-day implementation of the programmes.
- Support the preparations of request for proposals, request for quotations, events, field visits, etc.
- Support in establishing and maintaining contact with different partners.
- Support the UN Women team in the implementation of the control mechanisms through monitoring of budgets including unutilized/ uncommitted funds and to keep abreast the programmes’ KPIs/ indicators to ensure thorough follow up for the programmes’ monitoring frameworks (PMF).
- Support the UN Women team in the financial management of the programmes.
- Provide necessary information for the audit purpose and support implementation of audit recommendations.
- Organize, compile and process information for donors, national stakeholders and UN Women.
Administrative and financial management support:
- Ensure maintenance of the internal expenditures control system which ensures that vouchers processed are matched and completed; transactions are correctly recorded and posted in Quantum (UN Women ERP system).
- Take timely corrective actions on un-posted vouchers, including the vouchers with budget check errors, match exceptions, unapproved vouchers.
- Create requisitions in Quantum with all supporting documents for PO creation and processing of invoices in a timely manner.
- Ensure organized filing for following UN Women’s regulations in this regard, ensuring clear and transparent availability of documentation for donors.

Required Skills and Experience
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in business or public Administration, development studies or other relevant degrees is required.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in programme admin support and implementation, required.
- Previous experience in UN agencies would be an asset.
- Experience in working in a computer environment using multiple office software packages required.

Language Requirements
- Fluency (written & spoken) in English and Arabic is required;
- Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.
