The Role

As the Policy & Project Manager, you’ll actively participate in the planning, prioritisation, and execution of AFGC’s sustainability agenda, playing a crucial role in providing support, advice, and insights in the areas of sustainability including Climate Change – Scope 3, Circular Economy, Sustainable Packaging, Ethical Sourcing, Food Waste, Energy, Water, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Reporting.

About You

You’ll be innovative, self-motivated, and able to work in a collaborative environment with limited supervision. With strong research, policy and analytical skills you’ll be inquisitive, open to ideas and able to distil and present complex information into relevant and factual work.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide research, analysis, and advice to support the development of AFGC policy positions and strategies
  • Respond to key policy considerations, including submission writing and participation in selected Government working groups
  • Ensure the Sustainability section of the website remains current, including consultation listings
  • Consult, communicate, and build relationships with relevant stakeholders, including members, government, and industry bodies on key policy and program initiatives related to sustainability
  • Assist in the planning and operation of the Sustainable Practices Committee, relevant subcommittees or working groups, and sustainability forums
  • Assist in drafting member communications, including Member Briefs and Quarterly Newsletters

Experience and Knowledge

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management, economics, business, or related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of policy, sustainability, and environmental management
  • Experience working on broader sustainability policy and management matters affecting the food, grocery, and beverage industry
  • High-level interpersonal skills consistent with working in a tight-knit, highly motivated, and dedicated team
  • Experience building relationships and establishing confidence, credibility, and trust with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Well-developed strategic thinking and planning skills
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
