Overview
Democracy Now!’s Major Gifts
Officer is a senior member of our growing development
team. As a departmental leader, the Major Gifts Officer devises and
implements fundraising strategies to meet annual and long-range
revenue goals to advance the work and mission of Democracy
Now! This experienced individual-giving professional will also
build and maintain a large portfolio of major gifts donors and
prospects; plan and execute cultivation events in New York and
around the U.S; and direct our planned giving program.
Democracy Now!’s Major Gifts Officer reports to the
Director of Development.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the Director of Development and
organization leadership to design and implement comprehensive major
gifts and planned giving growth strategies for Democracy
Now!
Build and maintain relationships with individual
donors who contribute $5,000 to $49,999 to Democracy Now!
annually.
Partner with the Director of Development and
organization leadership to identify and reach out to new donors who
can support the work of Democracy Now! with five-figure
gifts.
Directly ask for and secure five-figure gifts from
individual donors.
Direct prospect research.
Direct Democracy Now!’s new and growing
planned giving program.
Plan and execute small donor events and gatherings in
NYC and across the United States.
Collaborate with the Director of Development to plan
and execute major organization-wide fundraising events.
Report to organization leadership on revenue
projections and actual revenue from major giving and planned giving
initiatives.
Generate donor communications, proposals, reports and
briefings as needed.
Prepare the Director of Development and organization
leadership for meetings with major individual donors.
Stay up to date on individual giving trends and
strategies through regular surveying of the philanthropic landscape
and attending professional development events.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Strong alignment with the mission of Democracy
Now! required
3 to 5 years of experience in securing four- and
five-figure gifts
Experience fundraising for a non-profit news
organization a plus
Ability to educate and excite new donors about the
work and mission of Democracy Now! in writing and in
conversation
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal
communication skills
Demonstrated prospect research and donor moves
management experience
Knowledge of development best practices
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and
respond quickly to emerging opportunities
Excellent planning and organization skills
Event-planning experience is a plus
Experience with cloud-based donor databases like
CiviCRM preferred
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range is $90,00 – $110,000.

Other Information
This is an NYC-based position with onsite work
requirements.
The latest COVID-19 booster is required for this
position unless Democracy Now! has approved a specific
medical or religious exemption in advance of the first day of
work.
