Position Focus:
The Verhaak lab is looking for a new lab manager. We are a group of approximately 12 scientists, who are performing both wet lab as well as dry lab research. Our lab manager makes sure that our wet lab is able to operate effectively and efficiently.
The Verhaak lab is a hybrid dry and wet lab where complex data are generated and analyzed complex data using emerging technologies including high-throughput 3D content screens, live cell tracking of extrachromosomal DNA, and single cell genomics to better answer our biologically-driven questions. The candidate will ensure the optimal operation of our wet lab. Managerial duties generally include maintaining organization of equipment and materials for our lab, including purchasing lab supplies, ensuring compliance with safety regulations; biospecimen processing including single-cell library preparation; cell culture, and genetically engineering of cell models. Experience in working with animals is desirable but not required. Support postdoctoral associates and graduate students in achieving their research goals.
Essential Duties
1. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning 3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. 4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. 6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. 7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Outstanding writing and communication skills, with an ability to work both independently and within collaborative teams productively.

Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and work independently.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Knowledge in equipment, data analysis, or other specific areas related to the field of cancer research.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data.

Ability to present information effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
MSc degree. At least three years of experience in a relevant position.
