AGIAMONDO e.V. is the personnel service of the German Catholics for Development Cooperation. The Civil Peace Service (CPS) offers development workers a meaningful role working with local development agents. The CPS is a personnel programme for peace-building and the prevention of violence in crisis and conflict regions. It sets out to promote a world in which conflicts are settled without violence. Working with church-related and civil-social partner organisations in Columbia, AGIAMONDO aims to make a contribution towards civil conflict management and the sustainable and equitable development of the country through peace-building measures.
The Lawyers’ Collective CAJAR (Colectivo de Abogados/as José Alvear Restrepo) is a renowned organization of lawyers specialized in providing legal assistance to victims’ groups and small organizations in the field of human rights and environmental protection. CAJAR’s main objectives are to fight impunity, protect territories and land rights in the context of the climate crisis, promote peace and end the armed conflict. CAJAR engages in strengthening organizations, political advocacy and communications and as judicial[PL1] representation. As part of a team, which focusses on collective rights, you will work primarily with the accompaniment of organizations and individuals affected by environmental conflicts.
To support our local partner organisation in Uganda we are looking for a Organizational Developer – Resource Conflicts and Advocacy (m/f/x).
Your tasks
- You will actively shape the educational process of the “Escuelas de Justicia Ambiental” and provide valuable support for organizations with regard to environmental justice and the enforceability of associated rights. Your tasks will also include the further development of advocacy measures in the participating communities.
- You will bring your communication skills and expertise to support victim groups legally accompanied by CAJAR in advancing their causes in the areas of communication, organizational development, advocacy and strategic advice.
- Through participatory analysis of existing environmental conflicts in affected areas, you will contribute to perspective change and education by creating informative communication products and reports.
- You will be committed to developing compelling advocacy strategies and effective communication tools for the initiatives supported by CAJAR.
- You will be responsible for the proper spending and management of funds on the ground in accordance with donor guidelines and AGIAMONDO’s requirements. You will work in partnership with colleagues from the partner organization.
Your profile
- You have a relevant university degree in a social science or humanities subject such as political science, sociology, anthropology, peace studies or a comparable discipline.
- You have at least 3 years of professional experience in dealing with various civil society actors, especially in community work.
- Your experience in consulting on organizational development and strategy building for small local organizations is an essential part of your skills.
- You have proficient knowledge and practical experience in communication, networking and advocacy work in the context of small NGOs.
- Your work experience abroad, ideally in South America, including work in conflict zones, underlines your versatility and adaptability, in a legal based organization.
- Knowledge of environmental conflicts, especially energy (fossil and agricultural fuels, electricity, fracking) is desirable.
- You are fluent in Spanish. A good knowledge of English is an advantage.
- You are an EU citizen or Swiss national and identify with the goals and concerns of church development and peace work.
