Cascadia Conservation District is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join the District as a Bilingual Education and Outreach Specialist. This part to full-time position is an essential element of Cascadia’s natural resource programs by working with all natural resource topic areas to promote resources available for community members in multiple languages. This position will develop bilingual content (visual, written, audio), coordinate workshop promotion and logistics, engage the public at community events, and work with the Youth Education program to connect people to natural resources in Chelan County. Our programs are focused on implementing highly impactful projects with private landowners where coordination with state and federal partners can help achieve large landscape scale improvements to natural resources.

Cascadia’s programs have been steadily growing over the last two decades routinely engaging with thousands of members of the public each year. This is accomplished through participating in community events, development and distribution of a quarterly newsletter, developing written content, engaging the public through social media, hosting workshops and farm tours and doing direct outreach to priority areas.

Cascadia CD is located in Chelan County, Washington with physical office space located in the city of Wenatchee. This position is funded through grants from local, state and federal grant programs and relies on successful future grant applications to continue its funding. This position reports directly to Cascadia CD’s Executive Director and is eligible for partial remote work opportunities.

Typical Work

The Bilingual Education and Outreach Specialist will work cooperatively with Cascadia CD staff to develop and implement education and outreach activities such as workshops, mailers/flyers, social media, video content, youth education activities, and other methods as appropriate to engage the public in Cascadia’s programs. This position will influence  communication  methods  and content to better reach members of the Chelan County community in the promotion and adoption of Cascadia CD’s natural resource programs.

Cascadia CD consists of a small team of dedicated staff focused on providing technical assistance, cost share and building programs that serve our community and the natural resources in Chelan County.

Cascadia CD is a non-regulatory political sub-division of Washington State and is governed by a 5-member volunteer Board of Supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications

A qualified candidate must have:

  • Associate’s degree or higher involving major study in communications, graphic  design,  marketing,  business, public relations, natural resources, environmental sciences or studies, education, or another applicable
  • Applicable paid job experience may be accepted in place of a degree.
  • Zero to five years of paid experience in communications, marketing, outreach, or educational
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license or able to attain one upon employment.
  • Fluent in spoken and written Spanish

Desired Attributes

A well-qualified candidate will have some or all of the following qualifications:

  • Experience writing, designing, developing, and editing print and online outreach
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign and Illustrator).
  • Strong skills in multi-tasking and the ability to meet multiple deadlines with an exceptional standard of quality
  • Ability to adapt written and spoken communication to various audiences using formal and informal
  • Knowledge and experience with Community-Based Social Marketing theory and its application to natural resource- based outreach.
  • Advanced desktop computer literacy and computer software Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Smartsheet, etc., and learn new technologies to perform the functions of the position.
  • Demonstrated experience with relationship building and community engagement and existing connections with local community groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, training in, and experience with the practical application of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge/experience working within grant deliverables and budgets.
  • Experience with Squarespace, WordPress, or other website hosting platforms.

Position responsibilities and pay scale will be based on the number of desired attributes the candidate meets. Those meeting 25% or more of the desired attributes are encouraged to apply.
