The Andrew Mellon funded Digital Ethnic Futures initiative at California State University, Fullerton is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative individual to join our team as a Research Associate I. This exciting role involves conducting innovative research at the intersection of digital technologies and ethnic studies fields, while also providing administrative support for CSUF DEFCon programs and initiatives. As a Research Associate, you will contribute to two ongoing public humanities projects by conducting in-depth historical archival research using traditional archives, online databases, and publicly accessible digital assets.
In this position, you will play a central role in servicing the overall grant project through hands-on research, writing, and digital project creation. You will also be responsible for specific administrative functions, including organizing external communications, assisting with virtual and in-person programming, and collaborating with our diverse team of scholars, students, faculty, and community fellows. Together, we will work on initiatives that advance the digital ethnic studies field and center Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, and immigrant communities in southern CA and beyond.

- Organize and analyze oral history data using OHMS software.
- Utilize U.S. census records for research purposes.
- Maintain records in an Airtable database.
- Conduct oral histories and historical archival research as required.
- Explore digital tools and platforms to enhance understanding of research data.
- Attend DEFCon and community partner events and programs.
- Assist in preparing reports, publications, and grant proposals.
- Present research findings to stakeholders, conferences, and events.
- Provide clerical, logistical, and project management support for CSUF DEFCon activities, including communication with faculty and student fellows, organizing public programs, community events, and related initiatives.

- Qualifications

- Demonstrable emphasis, concentration, or certificate in digital humanities or critical digital pedagogy.
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Effectively communicate complex ideas to non-specialists
- Ability to envision projects across multiple stages and timelines
- Ability to manage multiple projects and their deliverables simultaneously, while actively participating in DEFCon programs and events
- Familiarity with digital humanities tools and current trends, including digital exhibitions, interactive timelines, mapping, data viz, data management or 3D technologies is a plus
EDUCATION:
- Minimum Master’s degree in History (Public History), Public Humanities, Cultural Studies, American Studies, Ethnic Studies (African/African American, Asian American, Latinx, Native American Studies), or related disciplines with an emphasis in Digital Humanities.
