Every day, our brains make sense of a chaotic jumble of sensory input, selecting relevant information and discarding the noise. At the Lab in Multisensory Neuroscience, we seek to understand the pathways and mechanisms by which the human brain parses sensory information, integrates across multiple senses, and compensates for deficits in the system. We use psychophysical behavior experiments with multiple neuroimaging technologies to combine the strongest features of each modality, including electroencephalography (EEG), magnetoencephalography (MEG), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), computational modelling and neural stimulation.
We are seeking a part-time research assistant to work through the Spring semester with research mentors to develop experiments, prepare recruitment materials, interact with participants, and analyze collected data. You will be responsible for overseeing experiments as they are in progress and troubleshooting with participants if any issues come up during testing.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or GED
- Strong analytical skills, written and oral communication skills, and strong technical skills
The ideal candidate would have proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python with regards to data processing (NumPy, PANDAS), CITI certificates in human subjects research and responsible conduct in research, and a strong interest in auditory neuroscience, transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), and how attention is regulated in the brain.
Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within the Neuroscience Institute. Inclusion, collaboration and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Therefore, we are in search of a team member who is able to effectively interact with a varied population of internal and external partners at a high level of integrity. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.
