Main purpose of job: This is an exciting role, based at the British Embassy in Brasilia, which will put you right at the heart of driving the global health and climate agenda forwards when the international spotlight will be on Brazil during their G20 and COP30 Presidencies. As a Higher Executive Officer, you will have responsibility for the Climate & Health programme and policy delivery working with the Climate Team in Brasilia, in close collaboration with the Head of Development, & Health policy team in London. This role will help strengthen the UK’s health and climate policy and programme work with Brazil across multiple work-streams, particularly in the context of Brazil’s G20 and COP30 presidencies. In order to do so, the successful candidate will work across a range of health topics, and work closely with colleagues based in other departments in Brazil and London, including the FCDO’s Global Health Directorate, Department for Business & Trade’s Health & Life Sciences Team, and the Department for Health & Social Care’s International Team to pursue cooperation with Brazil on our priority areas including international leadership on the issue of Climate and Health. The successful candidate will use our existing status as a key health and climate partner with Brazil to build networks within the Brazilian Government, other Embassies, UN, NGOs, and private sector organisations and use this platform to build policies and programmes against UK priorities and expertise. The post holder will also likely support the preparation and delivery of the UK’s engagement with Brazil in these topics during its Presidency of the G20 in 2024. This includes providing policy and logistical support to teams across the Embassy and in London and spotting opportunities to exploit synergies in the nexus of Climate and Health . As well as employing your climate and health policy knowledge and representational skills for the UK in Brazil, you will also gain first-hand experience helping to shape outcomes in real time. You will advise your peers and seniors in the Brazil Network on issues within your portfolio; you will work with colleagues from multiple UK government departments; and you will play a role in welcoming a number of UK ministers to Brazil, including the Prime Minister. The UK’s Brazil Network The UK Government’s Brazil Network works to deepen bilateral relations with Brazil across a wider range of areas including Political, Trade, Climate, Development, Economics, and Science & Innovation. Our Teams are based across 5 locations, with our Embassy in Brasilia and Consulates in Belo Horizonte, Recife, Rio De Janeiro, and Sao Paulo. The successful candidate will be required to work across the Development and the Climate teams, and in close collaboration with trade. |
· Experience of working on Global Health and Climate policy (including UN, NGOs, or Development research organisations) · Experience managing Health and/or Climate and/or Development initiatives or programmes, achieving real impact alongside implementors and stakeholders · Knowledge of the Brazilian climate and development context · Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including fluency in both Portuguese and English. · Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple workstreams at one time · Political awareness and an ability to handle complex information to make nuanced judgements in a fast-paced policy environment.
