  • Leadership role within the Department of Architectural and Industrial Design
  • Full Time and ongoing position at our Hawthorn campus
  • Academic Level E with flexible working options

About the Role
For this role we are seeking leadership with strong industry networks; the incumbent will acquire competitive research funding, leveraging their expertise and connections in the field. While academic achievements are essential, this role will also require the practical knowhow for industry engagement and an exceptional ability to increase funding for the school.

In addition, the Professor within the School of Design and Architecture will be focused on providing outstanding and energetic leadership in research, teaching and other professional activities. Working with other senior staff, the position will foster a culture of innovation and excellence and advance cross-disciplinary programs in Architectural or Industrial Design in the school and more broadly the university. In this role, the appointee will maintain and develop partnerships with a wide range of industries and public institutions.

As a leader in your discipline, you will maintain a significant program of public and institutional engagement, working with other Swinburne researchers, to strengthen and amplify existing and acknowledged research strengths of the university, in accordance with its strategic plan. Through proactively seeking out opportunities, you will be expected to foster and participate in activities that build further on existing links with government, business, communities and professions in Australia and internationally. The appointee will be expected to maintain an internationally significant record of publications, and a nationally competitive record of research funding. In addition, the appointee will have teaching responsibilities, which will involve preparing and delivering classes and assessing students in the architecture or industrial design discipline both on campus and online. The position will also make a strong contribution to the mentoring of early career researchers and in attracting and supervising relevant higher degree research candidates. Importantly, the incumbent is expected to have a strong research track record with evidence of securing research funding in Industrial Design and/or Architecture related projects.

The school delivers high quality personalised education and fosters a strong research culture that includes international collaborations, competitive grants, high-quality publications and impactful and industry engaged research.

  • A track record of successful supervision of higher degree research candidates, particularly supervision to completion.
  • Demonstration of a significant track record in undergraduate and/or postgraduate course leadership.
