NHBS is looking for an Ecology Content Editor to work with our Publications team on our two
magazines, British Wildlife and Conservation Land Management, and our
Marketing team on high-quality ecological content. This full-time role will be based at our
office in Totnes. 

Our ideal candidate will have a talent for writing, great proofreading skills, and a good
knowledge of natural history and ecology. A large proportion of this job will be writing
high-quality text – blog posts, emails, item descriptions, and magazine adverts – as well as
proofreading the work of others and working on content with external authors and other
contractors. In any given week our adverts run in magazines, our emails reach thousands of
customers and our printed fliers, catalogues, and newsletters land on hundreds of doormats. In
addition, NHBS is responsible for publishing the magazine British Wildlife and
Conservation Land Management, two of the most highly regarded publications on natural
history and conservation in the UK. 

The Ecology Content Editor plays a key role in creating this material for NHBS and assisting in
the production of our magazines. 

As Ecology Content Editor some of your responsibilities will be: 

  • Writing high-quality quality interesting and informative copy about the products and
    services offered by NHBS.
  • Proofreading and editing marketing copy.
  • Assisting with the production of the different strands of our marketing campaigns (emails,
    fliers, print advertising, online advertising, and website campaigns)
  • Guiding authors and other contributors through the magazine production process
  • Proof-reading each issue of British Wildlife and Conservation Land Management
  • Writing blog posts and formulating author interview questions
  • Understanding our customer base and writing varied content to suit
  • Assisting with printing and mailing processes for the magazines

Essential skills: 

  • Outstanding writing and proof-reading skills
  • Excellent communication and organisation
  • A demonstrated interest in and knowledge of ecology and conservation
  • A common-sense approach, critical thinking, and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • A passion for writing and a love of the English language
  • Ability to modify writing style based on end-user.

Our offer to you: 

The successful candidate will be joining a diverse and friendly workforce of over 50 colleagues
This permanent position is available immediately. Salary: £25,000 – 27,500 (depending on
experience), based on a 37.5-hour week Monday – Friday, with the position attracting 28 days
holiday p.a including bank holidays, up to three paid days of conservation volunteering p.a.,
and a generous company pension.

practical solutions. Additional information, including costings, materials, and equipment, is

products, conference and event reports, and topical comments, and is illustrated throughout
with top-quality colour illustrations.
