Work Location

Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting

This advertisement is for one (1) Winter/Spring internship located in the Sales and Marketing
Section, Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications in New York City.

The Outreach Division engages and educates people and their communities worldwide to
encourage support for the ideals and activities of the United Nations. The Sales and Marketing
Section works to promote United Nations’ knowledge, communication, and outreach objectives by publishing, selling, distributing, and licensing, print and electronic publications, periodicals and databases that disseminate UN knowledge, studies, and data.

The internship is unpaid and full-time and will last 6 months. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision and support of the Publishing Officer.

This internship is available as soon as possible.

The selected intern will report to the Publishing Officer and may perform some or all of the following functions:

Electronic products
Support the Operations and Technology (O&T) team on a range of tasks including:
– Assist in performing quality control checks and testing of new releases of the Shop e-commerce site (shop.un.org)
– Assist in performing quality control checks and testing of the iLibrary platform (un-ilibrary.org) following ingestion of new publications, and when new features/functionality added.
– Assist with UN Mobile App developer account, helping to validate account user list
– Support the Operations & Technology team with other tasks as needed.

Acquisitions
Support the Acquisitions team on a range of tasks including:
– Maintain and update Author Department contact list with the guidance of the Acquisitions Editors.
– Help acquire outstanding publication files from Author Departments to add new content to the Shop e-commerce site and the iLibrary by contacting Author Departments or downloading files from their websites.
– Assist in preparation of sales and usage statistics reports for UN Author Departments.
– Conduct research and assist in the preparation of PowerPoint and other presentations.
– Support the Acquisitions team with other tasks as needed.

Marketing
The selected intern may perform some of the following functions:
– Assist with planning and producing marketing campaigns across different channels and platforms
– Provide logistic support for the organization of public events in the UN Bookshop
– Draft, format, edit, and post original web site content/news stories/ social media content, including graphics, photographs, and video
– Maintain databases and compile reports – Conduct research on thematic issues
– Assist with development and implementation of surveys
– Provide general office support (processing, drafting, and finalizing correspondence and other communications, setting up and maintaining files/records, organizing meetings, etc.)
Qualifications/special skills
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United
Nations Internship Programme, Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

-(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or
higher).

-(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum
bachelor’s level or equivalent).

-(c) have graduated with a university degree (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

Applicants must also:

-Be computer literate in standard software applications.

-Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal
commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.

-Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural
backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of
differing opinions and views.

No work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required, and Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
