At the Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance (Emory Centers), we help our clients and their partners develop the professional skills, evidence-based programs, and policy action needed to build healthier communities. Housed within the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory Centers provides innovative trainings, technical assistance, and materials to build the knowledge and skills to foster strong leadership, increase organizational capacity, and strengthen partnerships. Our clients include state and local departments of health, non-profit organizations, and foundations. Our services span across all public health issues, risk factors, and professional competencies. Our four dedicated subcenters have provided capacity-building and community mobilization services in all 50 states and territories over the last 20 years. JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Provides technical and supervisory oversight to projects, programs, or studies.
- Uses specialized knowledge of, and experience with, public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote solutions to public health issues/problems.
- Works effectively with study, program or project teams and/or study sites, and successfully manages related activities to achieve goals within required timeframes and budgets.
- Assists in the design, implementation, and maintenance of program or study related systems and procedures.
- Supervises and provides guidance, clarification and feedback to staff.
- Develops process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Provide consultative resources to principal investigators or to project, program or study managers and coordinators.
- Prepares proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.
- Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.
- Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions.
- May coordinate clinical study sites to ensure compliance with patient recruitment and data collection standards.
- May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, websites, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues.
- May design, develop, and conduct targeted training initiatives.
- May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives.
- Identifies new potential projects, studies or partners.
- May co-author papers for publication and presentation at professional meetings or conferences.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
This role will be working as the Health Equity Manager for a large cooperate agreement to provide training and technical assistance related to the National Diabetes Prevention Program and diabetes self-management education and support services.
Project Management:
- Coordinate and foster collaboration among funding recipients to achieve program goals including:
- Work with recipients to refine action plans and activities to drive health equity in priority populations with or at risk for diabetes.
- Identify and engage subject matter experts to advise and support strategies.
- Foster shared learning and cross-organizations collaboration to advance health equity and address social determinants of health.
- Create and manage workplans, timelines and milestones, and execution of deliverables by multisector workgroups.
- Maintains detailed project documentation including meeting minutes, action items, work plans, and issues list.
Strategy, Planning, and Program Development:
- Work with Health Equity Lead to set priorities, identify opportunities for recipient training and technical assistance, and execute on project-specific health equity initiatives.
- Designs, supports, and manages various projects and initiatives that require broad organizational support and input from multiple stakeholders.
- Apply health equity and racial equity frameworks and tools to program planning, systems development, partnership, and engagement strategies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree in Public Health, a master of science degree in Public Health or Health Education, or a master’s degree in Development Practice and five years of relevant applied public health experience OR a master’s degree in another field and six years of public health experience.
- Extensive data management and analysis experience.
- Grant development, management, and administration experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of progressively responsible roles leading health equity, population health management, quality improvement initiatives, and/or public health efforts.
- In-depth knowledge of public health, social determinants of health, structural racism and other systemic barriers that contribute to health inequities and experience embedding equity into policies and procedures.
- Proven history of engaging communities of color, groups, and communities that have been socially and economically marginalized.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated strong project management skills.
