Role objectives |
KEY
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under
the supervision of UNICEF Communication Officer and EOC Communication Officer, the
extender will perform the following duties.
- Social media strategy and implementation
Duties
& Tasks
- Conduct media round tables in Khost, Paktia, Paktika and Ghazni provinces, and provide reports to the UNICEF Communications Officer.
- Coordinate the payment for radio channels involved in the roundtables with the regional office and ACO.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of social media aspects of the communication strategy and ensure it is in sync with the national and regional communication plans.
- Track and identify key influencers to participate in the roundtable discussions in each province.
- Implement social listening mechanisms and other social media metrics to monitor and encourage growth across all platforms.
- Keep track of misinformation and rumors about polio on digital platforms, and alert the UNICEF and EOC Communication Officers.
- Draft copy and design visuals for the social media platforms.
- Collect content for social media channels from campaigns and other polio activities, and provide translation support for social media copy (as needed).
- Prepare monthly reports of the round table discussions.

Develop a social media plan for every campaign and manage daily social media content and engagement. The content should be innovative and designed to create awareness and address online issues including rumors/misinformat
- Identify and provide a list of prominent online influencers, groups, and agenda setters for health discourse on social media in Afghanistan (in Dari and Pashto), particularly where immunization and polio are discussed.
·Use social
listening mechanisms/software monitor all social media platforms. Identify social
sentiments in the communities and popular trending issues on polio, while tracking
and countering rumors/misinformation and negative content.

Translate website materials from English to Pashto and Dari
- Ensure regular communication and coordination with relevant communication focal points in UNICEF and the national and regional EOCs, and through the Communication Working Group

QUALIFICATION
and COMPETENCIES
- Education
University degree in Communication,
Journalism, Social Sciences, Humanities or another relevant discipline.
- Work
Experience
Two
years of relevant professional work experience. Training and experience in social
media and general communication is essential. Experience working in the UN or another
international development organization is preferred. Experience working in polio
programmes and/or large-scale health campaigns is preferred.
- Skills
·Ability to take good photographs, and possess demonstrable video and editing
skills is required.
·Ability to make visuals, gifs, animations and infographics using Adobe Creative Cloud Software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier, After Effects and Lightroom) is required.
- Language
Proficiency
Fluency in English,
Pashto and Dari is required.
