About the role

This is a permanent full-time (35 hours / week) position based in Dubbo with some travel to Narromine and Wellington

The role of Aboriginal Caseworker in the Doorways team is responsible for providing information, referrals, “drop-in support”, crisis services, and strengths-based casework that is driven by the needs of young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the Western Region. 

About you

  • This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People All applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977
  • Provide evidence of Aboriginal identity, and be able to demonstrate ability to work effectively with Aboriginal peoples and communities
  • Diploma in Community Services or enrolled and working towards a social service qualification
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting on homeless young people and their families, particularly in Regional and Aboriginal communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive, honest and productive relationships with young people and or their families and to develop a support plan, provide casework support and follow up.
  • Ability to provide effective assessment and referral for a variety of issues and facilitate young people’s access to services that will meet their needs.
  • Collaborative team player
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Hold a current NSW WWCC and Driver Licence
