About our opportunity

Our Development Services team are shaping a better Moreton Bay by assessing and managing the effects of development on the community and environment of Moreton Bay, working in partnership with the development industry to design and construct infrastructure for the community as well as levying and recovering infrastructure charges to fund new and upgraded major community infrastructure.

As a Principal Environmental Planner, you will provide technical expertise and lead the assessment of highly complex development matters relating to biodiversity, environmental management, and bushfire hazards to meet the needs of the community within the Moreton Bay area.

You will build high level effective relationships to achieve engagement and buy-in across a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders and facilitate project-based consultation. You will stay up to date with sustainability and environmental planning matters to drive integrated and sustainable planning outcomes.

You will also:

  • Facilitate project-based community consultation, including representing Council at a range of customer meetings, community, and business forums.
  • Act as a department delegate on a variety of projects, providing a source of professional advice to key stakeholders.
  • Undertake site inspections and investigations.
  • Lead the review of environmental offsets, including the negotiation of complex environmental offset agreements and the transfer of land for environment purposes.

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate professional with substantial experience and knowledge in planning assessment and compliance services within planning, design, protection, and rehabilitation of environmental areas.

You will hold a Degree in Environmental Planning or equivalent qualification and have a high-level knowledge of the State Planning Policy, the SEQ Regional Plan, the Planning scheme, and the Adopted Infrastructure Charge Resolution.

Additionally, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and direction to team members.
  • Expert knowledge of the nature conservation, vegetation management and environmental offset legislation in Queensland.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate complex planning concepts and matters in a simple and concise manner and negotiate sustainable outcomes.
