Job Overview:
South East Technological University (SETU) is one of Ireland’s highest performing higher educating institutions when it comes to research and innovation. The complexity of the SETU research and innovation ecosystem requires compliance with standards of research integrity, and SETU aims to ensure that all of its research activity aligns with the European code of conduct for Research Integrity, National Policy Statement on Ensuring Research Integrity in Ireland as well as relevant legislation and the policies and procedures of the University.
The Research Integrity and Compliance officer (RICO) is to play a key role in supporting the responsible conduct of research at SETU, in line with the institutional strategy, national and international best practice. This role is funded under the TU RISE scheme.
Role Profile:
The RICO will have significant experience in the conduct of research in an academic institution. The appointee will be expected to develop new policies and processes and to provide training to ensure implementation of existing and future policies and processes relevant to Research Integrity and good research conduct. This role will involve training and dealing with central support officers, SETU research staff and Postgraduate research students. The appointee will be responsible for dealing with complaints regarding research misconduct. The RICO will also be responsible for reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities & Duties will include:
- Working with the President or President’s nominee, President’s Directorate, the Vice President of Research, Innovation and Impact, Head of Research and other key University stakeholders to develop and implement University policies, processes and procedures reflective of best practices in research integrity, responsible research, of best practices in research integrity, open science and other related topics such as export control regulations.
- In collaboration with relevant offices and postholders, ensure that the University’s research training includes adequate coverage of the importance of research integrity, promotes responsible conduct of research, discourages research misconduct, and makes all stakeholders aware of the consequences of same.
- Provide specialist advice to staff and students at the University regarding the principles of responsible research, relevant university policies and procedures, and Irish and EU codes for the Responsible Conduct of Research, Export control regulations and any other relevant policies and regulations.
- Deal with allegations or evidence of possible research misconduct in a timely and confidential manner, in accordance with principles of fairness and consistency, and in adherence with university policy and procedure. Specifically, the RICO will receive allegations of research misconduct and manage the further inquiry and investigation into these allegations as the specific case requires from (i) preliminary review to (ii) inquiry to (iii) investigation (iv) sanction (v) communication of findings and outcome in a timely and confidential manner. This will include the management, support, and coordination of the activity of relevant panels as may be established for the purposes of reviewing or investigating allegations or evidence of research misconduct.
- Provide tailored advice and support to researchers on relevant topics such as authorship queries and international research collaboration.
- Provide support for researchers through training and staff development activities, such as developing guidance notes, web-based resources and delivering workshops.
- Develop related professional development programmes for SETU staff and researchers, Postgraduate research students and external enterprise collaborators.
- Promote effective teamwork, attend coordination meetings with the TU RISE project coordination team.
- To provide detailed and accurate reports, as needed to relevant University committees, the Executive Management Team and external stakeholders, where required.
- To track relevant activities and training metrics at Faculty level.
- To undertake any other projects in support of research activity as required by the President or President’s nominee, President’s Directorate, Vice President of Research, Innovation and Impact and/or Head of Research.
- Liase on behalf of SETU with external funding agencies or other stakeholders as required with discretion, sensitivity and respect for all concerned.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant policy/regulation updates and appropriate practice.
Salary: The gross salary scale applicable to the post of is: €86,426 – €106,992 p.a.
