Duties and Responsibilities
Background:

There is a need for talented interns to handle diverse responsibilities, such as improving stakeholder communication, managing DEPAR’s B2B Matching community, and supporting the Arab region’s ecosystem mapping. Tasks include mastering community engagement strategies, gaining knowledge in the technology stack for B2B platform development, and conducting market research and analysis essential for B2B matchmaking in the Arab region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Event Organization and Stakeholder Engagement Duties:
1.1. Organize and manage logistics for the Arab SMEs Summit.
1.2. Engage with participants, ensuring a smooth and efficient event experience.
1.3. Communicate with community leaders, organizations, and businesses to foster collaborative relationships.

2. Community Development:
2.1. Collect and analyze data on entrepreneurship, investment, innovation, and Arab SME sector opportunities.
2.2. Create and manage a B2B Matching community on the DEPAR platform.
2.3. Maintain dynamic ecosystem maps for the Arab region, ensuring content is accessible and current.
2.4. Implement community engagement strategies through social media and other online platforms.

3. Technical Skills and Market Research Duties:
3.1. Acquire familiarity with the technology stack for B2B platform development, including databases and backend systems.
3.2. Perform market research to identify industry trends, conduct competitor analysis, and assess specific business needs in the Arab region for effective B2B matchmaking.

The duration of a United Nations internship is for a minimum of two months on a full-time basis – this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following
conditions must be met:

1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or
higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum
bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above);

2. Applicants must:
(a) be computer literate in standard software applications.
(b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal
commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and
(c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural
backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of
differing opinions and views.
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
