Here at Human Appeal we have an exciting opportunity for a Global Safeguarding Lead to join our team. You will join us on a full-time basis on a permanent contract and, in return, you will receive a competitive salary.

As Global Safeguarding Lead, the successful candidate will have responsibility for developing, managing and rolling-out Human Appeal’s safeguarding strategy and processes. This will include conducting safeguarding training; investigating, reporting and resolving safeguarding concerns; developing self-assessment tools; and supervising global safeguarding champions. The global safeguarding lead is responsible for creating an environment of reassurance for any safeguarding cases at HA, ensuring that all HA staff are trained on safeguarding policy and processes and subsequently providing a timely response and accurate reporting of such incidents.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Global Safeguarding Lead:
Take a lead role in the continued development and review of HA’s safeguarding strategy, policy and processes ensuring that best practice in relation to safeguarding is implemented.
Update training materials and packages to ensure that appropriate safeguarding methods are properly embedded into Human Appeal culture and that departmental safeguarding champions have 24-hour ‘on-call’ access to safeguarding advice.
Develop self-assessment checklists and tools aligned with Core Humanitarian Standard
Act as first point of contact for all safeguarding concerns at HA and ensure that any concerns raised are dealt with in a timely manner.
Ensure that all safeguarding incidents are properly and accurately logged on a safeguarding register and that any pertinent issues are reported to the appropriate level.
Lead on investigations of safeguarding cases and support case management of multifaceted cases.
What we’re looking for in our Global Safeguarding Lead:
Educated to degree level, ideally in a relevant field such as social sciences, law, psychology or social work
Experience of international development and an understanding of how the international aid sector operates
At least five years’ experience working in an international context on PSEA, Child Protection, Sexual Harassment, GBV, Protection or Whistleblowing
At least five years’ experience of working with vulnerable adults or children
Experience of developing and delivering learning and training workshops
Knowledge and experience of applying the Core Humanitarian Standard of Quality and Accountability and other safeguarding standards such as Keeping Children Safe.
Experience in conducting safeguarding investigations and on-going case management with knowledge of survivor-centred approach
Ability to work with highly sensitive material in a confidential way; ability to show empathy for the challenges survivors face in reporting safeguarding concerns
Understands GBV and conflict sensitivity programmes
Holds high ethics; respecting confidentiality and data protection
Ability to react with maturity to an emergency incident at short notice
Computer literate and competent with MS Office package and case management software desirable
Fluent English is essential with knowledge of additional languages such as Arabic / Urdu desirable
