Job Description: |
- Grant Administration: Oversee the entire lifecycle of grants, from pre-award to post-award management. Ensure compliance with sponsor requirements, meticulous oversight of performance metrics, and implement policies and processes to optimize grant-funded research performance. Focus on growing the department’s grant funding awarded, improving application success rates, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Clinical Trial Administration: Lead the expansion of the clinical research portfolio by enhancing study participation and selection processes. Collaborate with marketing and business development to maximize study enrollment. Serve on the Clinical Trial Task Force Steering Committee to contribute strategic insights and ensure effective coordination.
- Team Leadership and Administration: Provide direction and management to the department’s research administration team, including direct oversight of the two Assistant Directors of Research Administration. This includes day-to-day managerial oversight of the research team, leading recruitment initiatives when applicable to the research team, and developing recommendations for the department administrator on retention and succession plans for existing research personnel to ensure sustained success with the research mission.
- Strategic Planning on Research Initiatives: Collaborate with department leadership to contribute to the strategic planning of research initiatives, aligning with the department’s goals and priorities.
- Budgetary Management and Assistance: Work closely with department leadership to assist in creating and managing the departmental research budget, ensuring alignment with research objectives. Provide support in various budgetary matters, collaborating with the finance team to ensure financial plans align with the department’s research goals.
- Other Departmental Administrative Duties: Undertake various administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Chair and Department Administrator, contributing to the overall functioning and success of the department.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Master’s degree in research administration, health administration, business administration, or related field.
- Four year or more years of experience in pre and post-award administration and compliance, managing a research administration team in an academic environment.
- Extensive knowledge of:
– Contract and grant management at university and federal level. – University of Florida rules and regulations as it relates to fiscal spending, personnel services and contract negotiations is required. – Regulatory functions for clinical trials, data management and report, and federal regulatory requirements for research on human subjects. – Developing and managing a comprehensive budget to include basic research and clinical trial budgets and operations budgets for areas of responsibility.
- Proven ability to:
– Provide oversight over multiple areas to include timely execution of deliverables with organizational, project planning, and time management skills. – Direct and disseminate policy and procedure in an effective manner. – Plan, manage, organize, and coordinate assignments, as well as monitor activities of multiple projects simultaneously. – Effectively lead, manage, and mentor professional staff and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize performance and drive projects to completion. – Stay abreast of federal and local rules and regulations governing research administration at the university. – Comprehend legal and federal terminology related to research administration.
