University Advancement at the University of Virginia (UVA) and the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy seek candidates for an Assistant Director of Development. The Assistant Director will represent the University of Virginia, its programs, policies, personnel, traditions, philosophy, and objectives to all constituent groups. The Assistant Director will generate philanthropic support for the Batten School as part of the Honor the Future campaign. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Development and will focus on fundraising efforts to support programs related to the priorities of the Batten School. The Assistant Director will be responsible for building the school’s annual giving program and increasing leadership annual giving activity and results.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective leadership and major-gift level donors to move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the School and the University. Other activities will include:

Developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans to include communications and annual giving campaigns.

Collaborating with development colleagues and liaising with University Advancement’s Annual Giving and Reunion Giving teams on strategies to retain and increase giving to the Batten School’s unrestricted annual giving funds.

Travelling regionally to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects to further build long-term relationships.

Collaborating with other development professionals within the Batten School and across the University in overall relationship building of alumni, parents, and friends to ensure a coordinated approach for prospects and donors, and to develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree.

Three years of related work experience.

A valid driver’s license.

Demonstrated record of sound judgement and professionalism

Exceptional communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details.

Experience using data to evaluate and plan.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does require traveling to attend meetings and programs. The successful candidate must be able to travel frequently domestically and be available for occasional evening and weekend work.

Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in an office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia. This position is eligible to work remotely.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,000 – $67,000 commensurate with education and experience. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
The anticipated start date is March 2024.
