The Director of Development for Parent and Family Philanthropy is
responsible for discovering, cultivating, soliciting and closing
major gifts of $50,000+. The Director will maintain a strong
portfolio of primarily parent and family donors and prospects to
develop philanthropic support among Maryland parents and families.
They will serve as a strategic leader to plan and implement a
comprehensive fundraising strategy for parent constituencies,
including principal, major, and planned gifts while coordinating
across the Division of Student Affairs, Division of University
Relations and with other university-wide partners.

 Working closely with the Vice President for Student Affairs
(VPSA) and the Director of Development for Student Affairs, this
development professional will staff and manage all aspects of the
university’s Parents Philanthropy Board, an advisory board to
the VPSA. It is expected this individual will quickly gain and
present an expansive knowledge of the University of Maryland.

The person in this role will represent the University of Maryland
to internal and external audiences while working with members of
the university community to advance our collective mission. The
Director of Development for Parent and Family Philanthropy will
develop and expand a prospect pipeline of parents and family
members with the goal of closing $500,000+ gifts annually. This
position will require meeting with prospective parents and family
donors in person and virtually. Working with, and reporting to, the
Executive Director of Development for Major Gifts, the successful
candidate will identify, visit, qualify, solicit, close and steward
leadership and major gifts from parent and family members and other
constituent groups as appropriate. This development professional
will have an indirect reporting line to the Director of Development
for the Division of Student Affairs and will liaise regularly with
the Student Affairs Development team and the Office of Family
Engagement.

The Director of Development for Parent and Family Philanthropy
attends and may facilitate specialized training and development
sessions with senior leaders, faculty and staff, as well as
volunteers. The position will consult with the Division of Student
Affairs in the annual solicitation of all parents and families,
Family Weekend activities, and regional parent events.
Additionally, the Director provides guidance on the collection of
information and is a participant in the regular transfer of
data.

This person must be a highly creative, energetic and independent
professional with a track record of building donor relationships
and closing major gifts, preferably with a parent and family
constituency. Candidates must have the ability to work
collaboratively and strategically with other fundraising
professionals and campus leaders and be supportive of parent/family
representation on campus.
