The Senior Associate, Sustainable Transport will report to and work closely with the “Integrated Adoption of E-mobility in Jordan” project manager on the quality delivery of all project components spanning stakeholders’ coordination, policy design, technical feasibility study and investment analyses, procurement support, and training. Moreover, the position involves liaising with UNIDO as implementing partner, supporting the monitoring and reporting of the project in line with the donor’s as well as GGGI’s corporate policies, standards, and protocols. Additionally, he/she will support travel arrangements and events management as need to ensure smooth operations. Finally, the Senior Associate, Sustainable Transport will be expected to contribute to the development of broader GGGI activities in Jordan and in the MENA region.
Provision of technical expertise in e-mobility under GEF project,  giving technical specifications for e-bus systems, feasibility analysis, local capacity building material preparation, reporting, support on building proposals for new projects, among others.
Support the formulation of policy interventions to be targeted by the project, based on the international best practice.
Support the design and delivery of training materials on sustainable transport.
Support identifying, scoping, and planning innovative projects in Jordan, and/or refine existing ones to reflect country needs and corporate objectives.
Provide strategic guidance on the prioritization of required investments on e-mobility infrastructure and sustainable energy to accelerate the deployment of EVs in Jordan.
Support travel arrangements and events management as need for project activities and operations.
Engagement:
  • Maintain, strengthen and add relationships with the government of Jordan, development partners, NGOs and relevant private sector players to ensure effective delivery of the project.
  • Support the project team on developing the most suitable technology delivery plans.
  • Work with country teams and transport expert community of GGGI to deliver Jordan e-mobility activities including the development of policy advisory outputs, sectoral assessments, feasibility studies and concept notes/ pilot project proposals that appeal to donors and investors.
Delivery​​​​​​​:
  • Develop, implement and manage a workplan to effectively deliver project activities and outputs against established timeframe in support of e-mobility transition in Jordan.
  • Support results reporting of project activities and facilitate internal and external communications.
  • Contribute to identify and suggest strategic investment drivers fostering e-mobility.
  • Support knowledge sharing and capacity building programs.
  • Support adequate monitoring of all project indicators in line with GEF, UNIDO and Government of Jordan requirements.
  • Benchmark available international business models and best practices for development, operation and maintenance of e-mobility solutions (including procurement procedures, long term use, ownership after contract ends, introduction of innovation and upgrades, fees, stimulating demand for charging point use).
  • Support the identification of the target technology investments (e.g., charging points) size; review present financial schemes, analyze the gaps in finance required for this investment.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in transport, urban/transport planning, economics or related field with additional expertise in environmental management and sustainable development seen as an asset; additional specialization/certifications in the area of (low carbon) public transport and/or electric mobility are an asset;
  • Preference of at least five  of relevant professional experience related to international transport, sustainable mobility, public transport, low-carbon modalities, and e-mobility concepts.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of (public) transport and tourism sectors and systems in Jordan is required; knowledge of the transport system in the Middle East is an asset.
  • Track-record of professional assignments in the areas of public transport and electrification of transportation are a requirement. Additional experience in the power and/or tourism sectors is an asset.
  • Track-record of implemented or supervised hardware procurements in the public transport sector, incl. electric mobility infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment in the field of energy and transportation, as well as the interconnections between energy and sustainable development;
  • Strong understanding of common policy implementation and investment challenges and opportunities for Jordan.
  • Proficient written and spoken both Arabic and English is an absolute requirement.
