What You Will Achieve
Working with Pfizer’s dynamic engineering team, you will play a critical role in the design and development of manufacturing processes and components to bring products from research to manufacturing.
As a Principal Material Scientist, your leadership and organizational skills will be used to develop technical plans to develop and improve products, processes or services. Through your comprehensive knowledge of principles, concepts and theories of materials, you will also work towards advancing new materials, technologies, and methodologies. You will be able to take a leadership role to drive new initiatives and facilitate agreements between different teams.

How You Will Achieve It
- Provide Materials technical expertise and leadership in drive projects to improve components used to manufacture critical Pfizer products
- Lead initiatives to identify bioplastics or other new polymeric materials or technologies to enhance and improve the Pfizer portfolio and drive NetZero initiatives.
- Implement unique materials solutions to support product improvements and drive Pfizer’s sustainability and NetZero initiatives
- Lead technical efforts to ensure timely resolution of material issues/ investigations to sustain a consistent supply of Pfizer products to our patients
- Provide technical expertise and leadership to Pfizer network initiatives to qualify replacement materials, reduce costs and ensure a consistent supply of product to patients
- Provide technical expertise to drive industry focus to evaluate bioplastics and other new materials technologies to drive Net Zero efforts.
- Utilize Supplier and Pfizer site listening network systems and data analytics to facilitate proactive trend analysis to mitigate subsequent issues and drive continuous improvements.
- Partner with QA, Procurement, suppliers, and other enabling organizations to drive new materials, NetZero, and continuous improvement projects.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to address and implement new materials compendial requirements and expectations.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Applicant must have a High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience OR an associates degree with 8 years of experience OR a bachelors with at least 5 years of experience OR Masters Degree with more than 3 years of experience, OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience in Polymer Science, Materials Science/Engineering or other related science/engineering
- 5+ years of experience
- Demonstrated leadership, management, and technical capabilities.
- Experience working with Supply operations, as well as enabling functions, managing and leading projects to meet agreed deadlines, including regulatory submissions to support new products.
- Strong understanding of materials and packaging component suppliers and processes
- Proven project management, analytical, problem-solving skills.
Nice-to-Have
- Relevant pharmaceutical experience
- Strong experience with sustainability and NetZero Programs
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be capable of completing a full day of work either at a desk/computer or in a supplier or network manufacturing site.
- Must be capable of supporting lab activities, as needed, to provide testing guidance and to lift up to 25 lbs. (computer, files, test samples) on occasion.
- Must be capable of applying their skills to the solution of material problems. In addition to the technical issues, individual must work well in a team environment and be capable of fostering the confidence across the supply network.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Occasional non-core/non-standard work hours may be required to support meetings in different regions or to support critical activities.
- Domestic and International Travel will be required to provide on-site technical support, visit supplier sites and address issues across the network.
- Adherence to safety procedures and use of appropriate personal protective equipment will be critical for lab work and site/supplier visits, as required.

Work Location Assignment:Flexible
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,500.00 to $155,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
