The Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) is a living laboratory where we investigate the relationship between computer technology, human activity, and society. Founded in 1993, the HCII is a place where we work to understand and create technology that harmonizes with and improves human capabilities, goals, and social environments through interdisciplinary research and education in design, computer science, and behavioral and social sciences. We research how people work, play, and communicate within groups, organizations, and social structures, then we design, create, and evaluate technologies and tools to support human and social activities.
Announcing research internships in the Future Interfaces Group at Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute. We are an interdisciplinary research lab creating new sensing and interface technologies. Applicants need to have completed their undergraduate education in Computer Science (or related field) with an intent to enter graduate programs. You will work closely with FIGLAB researchers on a mutually agreed upon research project, and receive mentorship and practical hands-on experience.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Uses a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect, and record results or observations.
- Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures. Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination, or presentation; writes technical reports. May build and validate quantitative models.
- Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
- May program software in support of job functions. Attends project meetings.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience
- Research experience, data collection, and analysis experience.
- Strong problem solving, reasoning, analytical and communication skills.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
