The overarching goal of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center 1349 is the study of fluorine-specific interactions. The research projects are designed to understand and control the complex interactions that the element fluorine and fluorinated building blocks cause in inorganic and organic systems. For this purpose, the great expertise of the working groups involved in synthesis / biosynthesis, analysis / spectroscopy and theory / modeling is complementary and synergistically linked in order to systematically expand the understanding of fluorine-specific interactions, their conceptual substructure and their numerous consequences. SP A4 investigates how the segregation properties of fluorine, which are widely used in organic chemistry, affect the self-organization of peptides.

Job description:
Participation in research and teaching in the following area: Studying the degradability of highly fluorinated peptides and fluorinated amino acids of different structures by defluorinases, enzyme engineering on defluorinases using various randomization strategies, studies of defluorinase activity using fluorescence assays, enzyme isolation and purification, enzyme crystallization The goal is development of enzymes that can break down fluorinated amino acids into fluoride.
This requires: molecular biological work techniques such as cloning, various randomization strategies, protein expression, protein purification and folding, various assays for determining enzyme activities, protein crystallization
The opportunity to do a doctorate is given.

Requirements:
Completed university degree in chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical engineering (MASc./Diplom) or equivalent degree

Desirable:
Very good academic achievements; experience and in-depth knowledge in the field of biochemical synthesis of natural products; extensive practical experience in molecular biology working methods, protein expression; experience and knowledge in the field of protein analysis, very good knowledge of English.
