Shift | 30-40 hours a week. Variable hours depending on program and client needs. This position is fully remote though some travel may be required to UK’s campus and kinship related events. |
Job Summary | Kinship Peer Supporters will work within the Kentucky Kinship Information, Navigation, and Support (KY-KINS) program housed in the College of Social Work’s Kentucky Kinship Resource Center (KKRC). Kinship Peer Supporters will provide structured peer support and outreach to kinship caregivers. This position will support KY-KINS participants in an array of “life” areas, including home stresses, familial dynamics, goal setting, and social relationships through regular one-on-one and small group interactions with families and caregivers. Peer supporters will promote positive behavior through experimental sharing, behavior modeling, goal setting, skill development, promoting self-efficacy, and fostering the development of healthy social capital. Kinship Peer Supporters will be required to engage in a rigorous 40+ hour training protocol and will have the opportunity to achieve Kinship Peer Supporter Certification through the ongoing training process. “Kinship Care is the full-time care, nurturing and protection of children by relatives, members of their tribes or clans, godparents, stepparents, or any adult who has a kinship bond with a child. This definition is designed to be inclusive and respectful of cultural values and ties of affection. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities | Candidates should have extensive first-hand experience with kinship caregiving; experience working with varied and diverse individuals and groups; knowledge of policy, processes, and resources associated with kinship caregiving; strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to work as a team member, and excellent time management skills. Candidates should be customer service oriented. Computer and data entry skill as well as the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite is also desired. |
