The Opportunity – Babysitter/Teacher
Post location: Field Office in Gaza – Rafah
Contract Duration and Level of Effort: 3 months with possibility for extension
ROLE PURPOSE:
This position is responsible to look after newborns, infants, toddlers and young children while their parents or caregivers are away, especially national staff working from the office in Gaza FO to facilitate staff to complete their duties and responsibilities while their children are taken care of. Position holder will uphold SCI’s Safeguarding policies with utmost importance while adhering to hygiene, safety & security rules and regulations.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Admin Assistant
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Babysitter
- Keeping the newborns, infants, toddlers and young children safe, keeping contact numbers at hand, alerting the parents immediately if there are any issues, then documenting any incident
- Responding to injuries, emergencies and recognising situations where parents should be contacted versus when immediately report any incidents
- Accompanying children at all times within the SCI premises and/or any activities, events where applicable
- Preparing food, providing snacks, assisting with eating, monitoring sleep and taking care of hygiene, as instructed by parents
- Selecting fun activities and entertainment such as games, reading and other activities, helping the children with learning and projects
- Supervising children’s playtimes
- Cleaning and organising around the SCI premises.
Teacher
- Prepare teaching materials, organise displays
- Plan and teach lessons and work with small groups of students
- follow safeguarding procedures and work with education psychologists and social workers where necessary and applicable
- Creatively invent games, activities, provide motivation and encouragement for children’s wellbeing and learning
- Inform parents and caregivers about their children’s progress
Any adhoc duties assigned by the immediate line manager.
In order to be successful, you will bring/have:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certificate of education and/or Education Literacy
- Previous experience in this or equivalent post
- A university course/an apprenticeship/previous experience
- In-depth knowledge of childcare, practical childcare skills and childhood education
- Ability to continually observe, ignore distractions, immediately recognise needs and problems and maintain a good temperament without getting angry
- Behaviour management strategies, ability to deal with tantrums, provide conflict resolution and use consistent discipline
- Communications, relationship building and problem-solving
- Creativity, invent games, activities, able to provide motivation and encouragement
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential:
- Good interpersonal skills
- Verbal and written communication skills in Arabic
- Patience, empathy, and nurture
- Attention to detail, organisational skills and discretion with confidential information
- Ability to work independently and proactively.
- Proven ability to handle challenging workload.
Desirable:
- English proficiency
